HP LaserJet Pro 3001-3008, HP LaserJet Pro 4001-4004, HP Tango - Printer unable to connect to CenturyLink C4000 Router

Learn how to resolve connectivity issues when using the CenturyLink C4000.

Issue:

Some HP printers are unable to connect wirelessly to CenturyLink C4000 modem/routers with default settings. Because some printers do not have icon-based control panels, they need to connect through the embedded web server (EWS) to resolve the issue.

Affected Printers

This document applies to the following printers.

  • HP Tango

  • HP Tango X

  • HP LaserJet Pro 3001dw, 3002dn, 3002dw, 3003dn, 3003dw, 3004dn, 3004dw, M308dn

  • HP LaserJet Pro 3001dwe, 3002dne, 3002dwe, M308dne

  • HP LaserJet Pro 4001dw,4001n, 4002d, 4002dn, 4002dw. 4002n, 4003dn, 4003dw, 4003n, 4004d, 4004dn, 4004dw

  • HP LaserJet Pro 4001dwe, 4001ne, 4002dne, 4002dwe, 4002ne

Solution

Follow these steps to try to resolve the connectivity issue.

Note:

Different printer models might have different menu options that vary slightly from those detailed in this document.

  1. Connect the computer to the printer using either Wi-Fi Direct or an Ethernet cable. For instructions on setting up and using Wi-Fi Direct, go to HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct).

    • Wi-Fi Direct – Open a browser window on your computer and go to the following IP address: 192.168.223.1.

    • Ethernet connection – Obtain the printer IP address. On your computer, open a Web browser, and in the address bar, type the IP address or host name, and then press Enter on the computer keyboard.

    Note:

    If the browser displays a message indicating that accessing the website might not be safe, select the option to continue to the website. Accessing the website will not harm the computer.

    Important:

    If the EWS page is blocked and preventing you from continuing, please contact HP Support.

  2. On the main page of the EWS, select the Network tab.

    Note:

    If prompted for a PIN, enter the PIN found on the printer label.

  3. Click Wireless (802.11) to expand, and then select Wireless Setup Wizard.

  4. Obtain the network name and password from one of the following sources:

    • Contact your IT department or network administrator.

    • Check the bottom of the CenturyLink C4000 modem for a label. Write down the Wireless Network SSID and Wireless Password.

  5. On the Wireless Setup Wizard, enter the network name (SSID) of the CenturyLink C4000 modem in the Enter a wireless network name field, and then click the Next button.

  6. Enter the network password in the Wireless password (WPA) field, and then click the Next button.

  7. Click the Finish button.

  8. Close the EWS page and disconnect the Ethernet cable from the printer.

    Note:

    The computer might need to be restarted to connect to the wireless network.
