HP Capture and Route – Update to prevent interruptions in server connectivity and remote services
Learn how to update HP Capture and Route (HP CR) clients, remote components, and remote servers to prevent loss of server connectivity and interruption of remote services after a Microsoft security update scheduled June 14, 2022.
Registry updates for HP CR should be made no later than June 13, 2022 to prevent interruptions in connectivity and remote services.
Microsoft is making changes to the Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) Protocol by defaulting to a higher-security level. The DCOM Hardening Patch is intended to strengthen the authentication between DCOM clients and servers. It will be available in Microsoft Windows Updates June 14, 2022.
For detailed information about the updates, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article KB5004442—Manage changes for Windows DCOM Server Security Feature Bypass (CVE-2021-26414).
Applicable versions
This document applies to HP CR versions 2.0, 1.9, and 1.8.
Update the HP CR client, remote components, and server
To solve connection issues or to proactively prevent disruptions in server connectivity, update the HP CR client(s), remote components, and server(s).
All HP CR clients and Remote Servers using DCOM will not be able to connect to the server until the following procedures are entirely completed. Follow the steps in the order presented.
This update has passed HP's quality assurance testing process. If you experience issues after applying this update, contact your HP Technical Support Center at e-sw-ops-support@hp.com.

FAQs
Learn about Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) when updating HP Capture and Route (HP CR) for the Microsoft DCOM patch.
I don’t use remote components in HPCR. It’s all on one server. Am I still affected?
Yes. HPCR uses DCOM to process data between its individual components, services, and DCOM-based applications (including HPCR Client software).
By what date do I need to apply the update or upgrade to assure there will be no interruption?
We suggest either implementing the documented change to keep the current defaults for DCOM published and provided by Microsoft or applying the patch as soon as it is available. Updates should be made no later than June 13, 2022.
I’m on HPCR 1.5. Am I still affected?
Yes. All versions of HP CR will be affected. Patches for versions 1.8, 1.9, and 2.9 were released on June 2, 2022.
I’m on Windows Server 2012 R2. Am I still affected?
Yes. It does not matter which server operating system you are running on. These changes will be included in all supported Microsoft operating systems for update.
