HP PCs - Troubleshooting wired mouse problems
If a mouse with USB cable does not respond or work as expected, check the connection, install updates, and confirm settings to resolve the issue.

If the mouse does not work, it could be a connection issue.
-
Turn off the computer.
-
Disconnect the mouse cable.
-
Turn on the computer.
-
Reconnect the mouse to the computer.
-
If the mouse has a USB connector, use a port directly on the computer rather than a USB hub. Try a different port if the mouse fails to respond with the first one you tried.
-
If the mouse has a PS/2 connector (identified by a round connector on the end of the cable), make sure the mouse is connected to the mouse port, not the keyboard port. The color of the cable plug and the color of the receiving connector on the computer should match.

Resolve specific mouse problems
Resolve mouse issues such as poor tracking, slow pointer, poor visibility, or slow clicks.
Mouse is not tracking correctly
If there is an issue with mouse tracking, try using the mouse on a different surface and clean the lens.
-
Change the mouse surface. Make sure the mouse is on a nontransparent, flat surface, such as a mouse pad or a white piece of paper. The device might not work on glass, grooved, translucent, or reflective surfaces.
-
Clean the plastic tracking lens. Dirt or fingerprint buildup can cause tracking issues. Use a damp cloth or cotton swab to clean the lens on the underside of the mouse.
Mouse pointer is too slow, too small, or clicks slowly
If the mouse pointer moves too slow, is difficult to see, or the double-click is slower than expected, change the mouse settings.
Restore your computer with Microsoft System Restore
