DESCRIPTION
ZBook Fury G8 System fails to respond to Wake On LAN (WOL) commands.

SCOPE

  • HP ZBook Fury 15.6 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC
  • HP ZBook Fury 17.3 inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC
Operating Systems:
  • Microsoft Windows 10 20H2
  • Microsoft Windows 10 21H2
  • Microsoft Windows 10 21H1
  • Microsoft Windows 11
RESOLUTION
Systems in scope are configured by HP with Modern Standby Disconnected because they can support internal HDDs.
Modern Standby Disconnected helps extends the life cycle of HDDs.

Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Disconnected
Network disabled to save power during Standby mode.
WOL command cannot be received.
Continue to the steps below to enable Network Connected mode.
Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected
Network stays enabled.
WOL command can be received.
This document and resolution do not apply.
To check if system is running with Modern Standby Disconnected:
Open a Windows Command prompt and type: powercfg /a.
Steps to resolve:
Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connection / Disconnected is controlled by a Windows registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\EnforceDisconnectedStandby = 1 (Network Disconnected default)
To change the Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Disconnected to Network Connected:
  1. Change EnforceDisconnectedStandby option to 0 (Network Connected)
    Deleting EnforceDisconnectedStandby also results in Modern Standby: Connected
  2. Rerun powercfg /a to confirm changes.
