HP Roam - Deployment checklist

This document contains a checklist for the successful deployment of HP Roam for Business. Additional installation details can be found in the HP Roam Deployment Guide.

Printer/Device preparation

Printer compatibility, firmware, and configuration

  • HP Roam compatible device with FutureSmart v4.6, or greater firmware.
  • Embedded Web Server (EWS) password set (for HP Roam on-printer app installation)
  • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) support enabled (for Bluetooth accessories, job release, and notifications)
  • Proxy set (if applicable)
  • Enable HP Web Services and verify the following:
    • Web Services Status = Enabled
    • Printer connected to HP Connected = Connected
    • Product email address has a format of xxxx@hpeprint.com
  • HP Roam on-device app (optional, via HP App Gallery or OXPd installer)
  • Bluetooth accessory available (optional, JD 3100w or RadBeacon USB, installation below)

HP Roam administrator console

Printer/user enablement, and authentication

  • Access to https://hp-roam.com/login via web browser, and log in with administrator credentials.
  • Add printers via Printers tab (+Printer, Import Printers, Discover Printers – HP Roam Connect Tool)
    • Enable HP Roam and Guest printing access (per device, as needed)
  • Add users via Users tab (+Add User, Import Users)
    • Enable HP Roam printing access (per user, as needed)
    • Enable HP Roam guest printing access (global, optional)
  • Set Azure AD authentication options via Authentication tab (if applicable)

Printer discover utility

  • Server (W2k8R2, or greater) or Workstation (Win 7, 10)
  • Network access and administrator credentials required for printer discovery
  • Support device protocols
    • Bonjour (mDNS); requires port 5353
    • Active Directory
    • Managed Printer Lists (MPLs)
    • HP ePrint Enterprise export
    • HP Web JetAdmin
  • Firewall requirements
    • Port 631 IPP/IPPS
    • Port 443 HTTP
  • Scan for devices and select which to sync with HP Roam.

  • Connect JD 3100w to USB port on printer, reboot, and verify installation on configuration page.

HP Roam RadBeacon bluetooth accessory

Pairing a RadBeacon to an HP Roam enabled printer

  • Printer created in HP Roam admin console.
  • RadBeacon connected to external USB power source near HP Roam enabled printer.
  • Bluetooth enabled on mobile device and logged in with administrator credentials.
    note:
    Pair Bluetooth Beacons option is found under user name menu.

  • Windows 7, 10
    • HP Roam app & print driver installer
    • .Net 4.6.1 installed on workstation
  • Android 5.5, or greater
    • Play Store App access (for app download/installation)
    • Location services enabled for HP Roam
    • Bluetooth enabled (for notifications of printer proximity and RadBeacon pairing)
    • Notifications allowed for HP Roam (for Bluetooth notifications of nearby HP Roam enabled printers)
  • iOS 10, or greater
    • App Store access (for app download/installation)
    • Location services enabled for HP Roam
    • Bluetooth enabled (for notifications of printer proximity and RadBeacon pairing)
    • Notifications allowed for HP Roam (for Bluetooth notifications of nearby HP Roam enabled printers)
