Samsung CLX-8380 Color Laser MFP - Replacing the Imaging Unit

This document explains how to replace the imaging unit.
The useful life of the imaging unit is approximately 30,000 pages. The screen displays Replace [xxx] Imaging Unit when the imaging unit is near the end of life. Otherwise the printer stops printing.
Imaging unit yield may be affected by the operating environment, optional accessories, printing interval, media type and media size.
Replacing the imaging unit
Use these steps to replace the imaging unit.
  1. Turn your printer off, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer, and then wait a few minutes for the printer to cool.
  2. Open the side cover.

  4. Push the lock lever up (1) and pull the waste toner container out (2).

      note:
    When you pull out the waste toner container out of the printer, move the container carefully so as not to drop it.
    Make sure you lay the waste toner container on a flat surface so the toner does not spill.
  5. Turn the imaging unit locking levers outwards (1) to release and open the inner cover (2).

  6. Pull the used imaging unit out of the printer using the handle on its bottom.

  7. Unpack the new imaging unit.
      caution:
    Don’t use sharp objects, such as a knife or scissors, to open the imaging unit package. This can damage the surface of the imaging unit.
  8. Remove the paper protecting the surface of the imaging unit.
  9. Remove the cap, and carefully pull the seal tapes out of the imaging unit.

  10. Thoroughly shake the new imaging unit side to side five or six times.

      note:
    If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets the toner into fabric.
      caution:
    • Be careful not to scratch the surface of the imaging unit.
    • To prevent damage, do not expose the imaging unit to light for more than a few minutes. If necessary, cover it with a piece of paper to protect it.
  11. Labels inside the printer identify each imaging unit’s position. Hold the handles on the new imaging unit, and push the imaging unit until it locks in place.

  12. Turn the imaging unit locking levers inwards until the unit locks in place, then close the inner cover.

  13. Insert the waste toner container into position, then push it to make sure it is firmly seated.
  14. Close the front cover, then the side cover.
  15. Securely latch the cover, then turn on the printer.
      caution:
    If the cover is not completely closed, the printer will not operate.
