Troubleshoot 55.xx (NVRAM) messages

This document provides information about how to resolve common error messages related to non-volatile RAM (NVRAM). It does not contain all of the possible error codes for HP LaserJet Pro printers.
The following table lists common control panel messages and event codes for HP LaserJet printers. It also lists descriptions of the codes and the actions recommend to resolve the errors.

DC controller NVRAM data error
Turn the printer off, and on again.

DC controller NVRAM access error
Turn the printer off, and on again.
If the error persists, the engine control PCA needs to be replaced. Contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/support

Page counts stored in NVRAM were requested to be reset. Special access is required to change this setting.

Page counts stored in NVRAM were reset. Special access is required to change this setting.

Protected NVRAM engine interface variables (group 1, which includes page counts) were reset (by Super NVRAM INIT or another operation). Special access is required to change this setting.

Engine/ formatter communication error
Turn the printer off, and on again.
If the error persists, the cable that connects the engine control PCA to the formatter might be loose or damaged. Contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/support

Engine communication timeout error
Turn the printer off, and on again.
After restarting, a 55.3000 error might occur. The problem could be the cable that connects the engine control PCA to the formatter, or it could be the engine control PCA, or the formatter. Contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/support
