HP 3115m Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Wireless Module

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the wireless module for the HP 3115m Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
  • Small, smooth-tipped needle nose pliers (optional)
  • Tweezers
  • Small, Phillips-head (P1 and P00) screwdrivers

  note:

Wireless module removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2.   note:
    • The following video depicts a specific configuration of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to all configurations of the notebook.
    • Depending on your notebooks configuration, you may have either a WLAN or WLAN/Bluetooth Combo module. However, the removal and replacement of these modules is identical and demonstrated in the following video.
  3.   caution:
    Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the wireless module. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
    Carefully disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the wireless module by grasping the connectors with a small pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers.
      note:
    Make careful note of which wireless antenna cable is connected to each terminal on the wireless module for later replacement.
  4. Remove the 3-mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the wireless module to the system board and allow it to release to the spring tension position.
  5. Grasp the wireless module by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  6. Place the wireless module in a static dissipative bag.
Wireless module replacement
  1. Grasp the wireless module by the edges and remove it from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Align the notch in the wireless module with the key in the wireless module slot on the system board.
  3. At an angle, gently insert the wireless module into its slot on the system board.
  4. Press the wireless module down and replace the 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the wireless module to the system board.
  5.   caution:
    Use care when connecting the wireless antenna cables to the wireless module. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
    Reconnect the wireless antenna cables to the wireless module.
  6. Route the wireless module antenna cables through the routing channel in the base enclosure.
