HP is aware of the recent vulnerabilities commonly referred to as "Spectre" and "Meltdown". HP has published a security bulletin with patches for these issues and a list of impacted systems. We will continue to update the bulletin as more information becomes available and encourage customers to check the bulletin frequently.

Adding or Replacing an Expansion Card (Video Card, Sound Card, etc) in HP Pavilion p6000, p6-1000 and p6-2000 Series Desktop PCs

This document pertains only to HP Pavilion computers with the following computer case:

Before you begin

You need a flathead screwdriver. Note that you need a screwdriver with a long shaft when you are replacing a long graphics card.
Turn off the computer, and then disconnect all cables. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable before disconnecting the power cord.
Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.

warning:

The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.

caution:

This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the retaining bracket and/or an expansion card

Use the steps in this section to remove the retaining bracket from the computer and to remove an existing card. You must remove the bracket before you can remove or install an expansion card.

warning:

Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.

Step 1 Remove the right side panel. For more information about removing the side panel, refer to the HP support document Opening the PC Case.
Step 2 Locate the expansion card slot lock on the back of the computer.
Step 3 Remove the screw connecting the slot lock to the computer.
Step 4 Pull the expansion lock off the computer.
Step 5 Detach any connectors from the expansion card.
Step 6 Pull on the edges of the expansion card to remove it from the expansion slot.

Installing an expansion card

Use the steps in this section to install a new expansion card.

Step 1 Carefully put the expansion card in the expansion card slot until it is secure.
Step 2 Reattach any connectors to the expansion card.
Step 3 The expansion slot lock has two hooks that fit into two slots on the back of the computer.
Step 4 Align the hooks of the slot lock into the slots on the back of the computer, and slide the lock into place.
Step 5 Replace the screw for the expansion slot lock.
