HP ProBook 6455b Notebook PC - Installing SATA Drivers on AMD Chipset

Issue
Unable to install SATA drivers with AMD chipset on HP ProBook 6455b Notebook PC in Windows XP Operating System (OS).
Solution
Follow the steps mentioned below to resolve the issue:
  1. Download the AMD AHCI driver (sp50304) from HP web site.
    Click here to download "AMD SATA AHCI Controller Driver" at http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=ob-89889-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN.
  2. Extract the softpaq on desktop after creating a folder as sp50304.
  3. Locate ahcix86.sys in following folder sp50304\RAID7xx\x86.
  4. Copy the file and paste it in C:\Windows\System32\drivers.
  5. Copy the content mentioned below in notepad and save it as AHCI.reg.

      caution:
    Using the Registry Editor incorrectly may cause symptoms requiring a reinstallation of the Windows operating system. Hewlett-Packard is not responsible for issues, which may result from incorrect use of the Registry Editor.
  6. Right click on AHCI.reg and select Merge.
  7. Accept the notification for merging registry entries.
  8. Reboot the unit to BIOS and select AHCI mode.
  9. Save the settings and exit.
    Post reboot the SATA driver will be installed and can be verified in Device Manager.

Operating System affected: Windows XP Professional SP3
