Issue
The 'Out of Paper' error message displays on the computer, even though you have paper loaded in the input tray. The product does not pick up or feed paper from the paper tray.
Follow these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue.
Step one: Reset the product
  1. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.
      note:
The product might not turn off after pressing the Power button. Continue to the next step regardless.
  2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  4. Wait 30 seconds.
  5. Replug the power cord into the electrical outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  7. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
Step two: Check the paper
  1. Check the paper in the input tray.
    • Replace any ripped, dusty, wrinkled, or bent paper.
    • Uncurl any curled paper by gently bending it in the opposite direction of the curl or replace the paper.
  2. Make sure that all the paper is the same size and type.
  3. Tap the stack of paper on a flat surface to align the edges.
  4. Make sure that the stack of paper contains from 10 to 25 sheets of paper.
      note:
Do not overload the input tray. Make sure the stack of paper is shorter than the top of the paper-width guide.
  5. Insert the stack of paper into the product, and then gently push the paper-width guide snugly against the paper.
  6. Try the print job again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, see the next step.
Step three: Check the print settings
The paper settings in the print driver must match the paper size and type loaded in the product. Use the following instructions to adjust the paper settings.
  1. In the software program you are printing from, click File.
  2. Click Print, and then click Setup, Properties, or Preferences.
      note:
The specific options might vary depending on the software program.
  3. Click the Features tab.
  4. In the Basic Options pane, select More from the Paper sizes drop-down list.
  5. Select the size of paper loaded in the product, and then click OK.
  6. In the Basic Options pane, select More from the Paper type drop-down list.
  7. Select the type of paper that you loaded, and then click OK.
      note:
These changes do not change the default print settings. The print settings revert to the default settings the next time you open the program.
  8. Change any other print settings necessary, and then click OK.
  9. Click OK to print.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, see the next step.
