HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the RTC Battery

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the RTC battery for the HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

P1 Phillips-head screwdriver

RTC battery removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the memory/wireless WAN Minicard cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Use your finger or a flat-bladed tool to lift the edge of the memory/wireless WAN Minicard cover and remove it.
  4. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the system board.
  5. Slide the RTC battery out of the sleeve on the system board.

RTC battery replacement

  1. Insert and the RTC battery into the sleeve on the system board.
  2. Reconnect the RTC battery cable to the system board.
  3. Toe the memory/wireless WAN Minicard cover into the enclosure.
  4. Press down around the edges until the cover snaps into place.
  5. Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws.
