DESCRIPTION
The following message appears indicating a problem with HP Sure Start Recovery:
HP Sure Start detected an unauthorized change to Critical BIOS settings. These settings were restored automatically and there is no further action required. The repeated occurrence of this problem indicates a security problem that should not be ignored. Please see the HP Sure Start whitepaper for more information.
This affects all commercial computers with a common core BIOS products with HP Sure Start Recovery that supports Critical BIOS settings and the Battery Health Manager feature (if an older BIOS is installed on the computer).

RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, perform the following steps to disable Sure Start BIOS Settings Protection in HP Computer Setup (F10) in the Security menu under BIOS Sure Start.
  1. Turn on or restart the computer.
  2. Press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup.
  3. Select Security.
  4. Locate BIOS Sure Start.
  5. Uncheck Sure Start BIOS Settings Protection.
  6. Click Save to save the changes and exit HP Computer Setup.
To resolve this issue, download and install the October 2020 BIOS release (or later) which contains the fix for this issue.
note:
First, disable (uncheck) the Sure Start BIOS Settings Protection feature (as seen in the above steps) to update the BIOS successfully. Also, ensure Bitlocker is suspended before proceeding (if Bitlocker is enabled on the computer).
To download and install the October 2020 BIOS Update (or later), refer to the following link HP Customer Support - Products.
  1. Go to HP Customer Support - Products.
  2. Enter your HP computer product name and model number.
  3. Click Find.
  4. Select Software, Drivers and Firmware.
  5. Locate and expand BIOS.
  6. Download and install the appropriate BIOS update for your computer.
