HP Internet Printer Connection - Information Needed to Find and Print to the Printer
What information is needed to find and print to the printer using the HP Internet Printer Connection (IPC)?
Either the IP address, host name, or URL of the printer/print server is needed to configure the IPC printer port. (see Figure 1). This information can be found on Configuration page from the front panel of the printer or from the TEST button of the external Jetdirect. It can also be found using the HP Web Jetadmin software, or by contacting the network administrator.
In addition, a proxy name and port number may be needed (this may not be required if printing over an intranet). Proxy information can usually be found in the Web browser on the computer or by contacting the network administrator. The supported proxies are MicroSoft Proxy 2.0, Netscape SuiteSpot 3.5, or Apache proxy 1.3.9. If the printer is outside of a firewall or proxy, Also, make sure the proxy supports HTTP v1.1 or later.
note:Unless a firewall is specifically configured, IPP print jobs will not be allowed to print in through the firewall. It may be possible to configure a firewall for port forwarding or NAT (Network Address Translation) to allow IPP port printing.
It is best to have the printer fully connected and configured before trying to configure the IPC port. If you try to configure a printer that is not connected to the network, not turned on, or does not have an IP address configured, an error message may appear when trying to configure the IPC printer port.

To find the actual current IP address, print a Configuration page from the front panel of the printer or from the TEST button of the external Jetdirect.
note:220.127.116.11 is the default IP address of a Jetdirect print server and cannot be used for the port configuration. The Jetdirect must be configured with a proper IP address for the network. If a DHCP server assigns IP addresses to the Jetdirect, HP recommends that you create a static lease for it.
The URL used for the port configuration includes:
http:// for the Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
The IP address. 18.104.22.168 is the default IP address and cannot be used for the port configuration. The Jetdirect must be configured with a proper IP address for the network. To find the actual current IP address, print a Configuration page from the front panel of the printer or from the TEST button of the external Jetdirect.
:631 is the default Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port number that the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has assigned to the IPP protocol. This port number should stay constant for the majority of sites. If you want to use a different port number, type that number in place of :631. For example, type 169.254.15.2:80.
ipp/port1 is the first printer port on an external Jetdirect print server or an internal HP Jetdirect card. To configure different parallel ports of an external Jetdirect, specify ipp/port2 for the second port or specify ipp/port3 for the third port.
A name assigned to the printer. The Domain Name Service (DNS) resolves the host name to an IP address. The host name you type should follow the conventions defined by your company.
Only select the Use HTTP Proxy check box if a proxy is needed to enable Internet printing. If you are printing over an Intranet, a proxy may not be necessary.
If your browser is currently using an HTTP proxy setting, specify the same HTTP proxy setting in the IPC configuration. This proxy may also be a special one that has been configured for Internet printing.
The proxy port number is a specific TCP port that the network administrator has assigned for the proxy to run on.
Click Save as Default to save all of the proxy settings for this printer and for any printers to be installed in the future. However, it does not change the proxy settings for printers that have already been installed.
