HP Printers - Printing on Both Sides of the Paper (OS X) (Duplexing)

This document is for HP printers with full feature software installed connected to a Mac computer.
All HP printers include paper handling settings in the print driver to manually duplex. This feature requires printing one side of the page then reloading the pages into the paper input tray to print the other side. Use these steps to set up the print job and to learn how to reload the pages based on your printer type and print job.
 note:
Some HP printers support automatic duplex printing, which does not require manually reloading the pages. To see if your printer supports this feature and to learn how do set up the print job, read the Frequently asked questions in this document.
Step 1: Print the first side of your pages
Set up the first side of the print job in the document print settings. Some settings depend on where the paper tray is on your printer. Before you begin, confirm your printer type below, then choose the correct setting when indicated in the steps.

  1. To avoid page ordering issues, load enough blank paper into the input tray to fully complete your print job.
  2. Open the document that you want to print, click File, then click Print.
    If no settings display, click Show Details.
  3. Select the name of your printer in the Printer menu.
  4. Select Paper Handling from the unnamed menu at the center of the window.

  5. From the Pages to Print menu, select Odd Only.

  6. Depending on your printer type, select one of the following settings from the Page Order menu:
    • Rear loading paper tray: Select Automatic
    • Front loading paper tray: Select Reverse
  7. Click Print.
  8. When all the pages are printed, remove any remaining unprinted paper from the input tray, then continue to the next step.
Step 2: Print the other side of your pages
To print the other side, reload the printed pages into the input tray, then set the pages to print in the document print settings. How you reload the pages and what settings to choose depends on the printer input tray type and if you want to read the document like a booklet or a tablet.
