USB Device Troubleshooting (Windows Vista)

This document pertains to HP and Compaq Notebook computers with Windows Vista.
Most USB devices require USB device software drivers to be installed before connecting the USB device to the computer. When installing a USB device, always follow the documentation from the USB device manufacturer.
Before performing the troubleshooting actions below, run the HP Support Assistant to see if your problem can be fixed automatically. To run the HP Support Assistant, follow these steps.
  1. Click Start and then click Help and Support.
  2. Click Maintain, and on the Actions tab click Refresh .
  3. A list of Recommended actions and learning tips that are available will be displayed. Click All to select all the actions listed and then click Apply.
    The Health Analysis applies updates and fixes to your computer. To learn more about HP Support Assistant, see HP Notebook PC - HP Support Assistant.
If the Health Analysis in the HP Support Assistant did not automatically solve the problem, try the manual troubleshooting actions below.
