Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)

This information applies to HP and Compaq notebook computers with Windows 8.
HP provides diagnostic software that you can use to test hardware components on your computer; to confirm hardware failures when you suspect something is wrong.
HP provides two ways to access the testing software: HP PC Diagnostics UEFI at startup or through the HP Support Assistant software in Windows.
  • Use HP PC Diagnostics UEFI as the preferred method for testing hardware and when Windows 8 does not start.
  • Use HP Support Assistant for convenience in Windows. Not all tests are supported from HP Support Assistant.
