Fixing Webcam Problems in Windows XP

This document pertains to HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario Notebook PCs with the original HP image of the Windows XP operating system
The HP Webcam 1000 is the built-in webcam for certain notebooks using the Windows XP operating system (OS). The webcam can be used to capture video motion or still images. It can be recognized and used by other video programs such as: Quickplay, YouCam, and instant messaging (IM) programs.
If you install a video application and there is no image from the webcam, you can test the basic operation of the webcam by opening one of the video programs that were pre-installed on your computer. Assuming the webcam is operational, you can configure and troubleshoot the application.
 caution:
Before performing any of the following troubleshooting actions, be sure you have updated the computer's Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) to the latest version. Older versions of the BIOS may not utilize all the functions built into the Windows XP operating system. Go to the Driver and Download page for your HP product to download and install the latest BIOS version for your computer. For information on finding and updating the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS or ROM for Notebooks Running Windows XP.
If you need to reinstall the XP webcam program, you can search the HP web site for programs for your model, or download the HP 1000 Webcam for XP in softpaq sp32211 (English only).
