HP Products - My Operating System Is Not Listed

If you do not see the version of your operating system (OS) listed, HP does not have any downloadable software or drivers for that OS for your product.

Many issues can be resolved by ensuring that you have both the latest OS version supported for your HP product and the latest HP driver updates. HP recommends that you install all updates from your OS vendor.

caution:

Recently, HP has seen an increased number of third-party support websites selling HP driver downloads or diagnostic tools. Many of these websites use the HP trademark symbol and claim to be official HP distributors. If your product supports your operating system, HP offers your driver and software at no additional cost through the HP website. Use caution when dealing with any website that asks you to pay for HP driver downloads or tools that claim to diagnose your HP products. These websites might not be affiliated with HP in any way.

Do not install BIOS updates from a motherboard manufacturer's website. Only install BIOS updates from HP. Installing BIOS updates from the motherboard manufacturer can prevent the computer from accepting an HP system recovery. This could result in a loss of data.

Microsoft Windows

The following alternative solutions might be available for your HP printer or computer:

HP does not provide Windows 10 drivers on HP.com for HP computers sold prior to August 2013. Microsoft has made most of the component drivers for these products available via Device Manager once the product is running Windows 10 with an active Internet connection. To see if your HP computer was tested to work in Windows 10, go to Upgrade to Windows 10 (in English).

Check for updates in Windows Update

Find and install updated software and hardware drivers for your computer with Windows 10.

Restart your PC to ensure any updates previously downloaded are correctly installed.
In Windows, search for and open Windows Update.

The Windows Update menu opens.
Click one of the following options, if presented, on the Windows Update window:
- If updates are available to download, click Install now.

- If no updates are currently listed, click Check for updates, and then click Install now after Windows detects available updates.

Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.

Update drivers in Device Manager

If a specific hardware component (such as the touchpad, video display, or keyboard) is not working correctly, or is missing functionality, update the component driver in Device Manager using the following steps:

In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

In the list of devices, expand the component you want to update.

Right-click the device and select Update Driver Software.

Click Search automatically for updated driver software.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.

Add a device in Windows

The Add a Device function on a Windows PC assists in the installation of new hardware and drivers. Go to the Search box under your Windows Start button and type Add a Device. Follow the instructions to set up or install new hardware.

Get updates from the maker of the software or hardware

Many companies provide free software and driver updates for their products. HP and Compaq computers come with a wide variety of hardware components and software titles provided by HP partners. If you are having an issue with a software title or hardware device driver and you cannot find an update from HP, try looking at the product manufacturer's website.

Only install BIOS updates from HP! Do not install BIOS updates from the motherboard manufacturer's website! Doing so can prevent the computer from accepting an HP System Recovery.

Product manufacturers provide technologies used on many HP and Compaq computers. Many hardware component manufacturers have their own website with driver downloads.

You can find information about your computer's hardware from the product specifications for your computer model. Search the HP Customer Support website using the name of your computer model plus the word specifications. For example, if you have an HP Pavilion HPE h8-1360t Desktop computer, search for h8-1360t specifications.

Apple OS X (Mac)

Most HP products are supported with drivers available through Apple’s Software Update (ASU) feature.

Apple Software Update: To learn more about keeping your Mac and installed software up-to-date, go to How to get software updates for your Mac (in English).
AirPrint: You may also want to check if your printer is compatible with Apple AirPrint. If your printer and your Mac’s OS X version support AirPrint, then you may not require any additional software or drivers to be installed to obtain basic functionality from your device. The Mac App Store (in English) provides downloadable software and driver solutions for your Mac.

Chrome OS

You probably do not need to download any software or drivers from the HP website or Google to use your Chromebook. If you need a solution for an HP printer, HP provides a downloadable solution from the Chrome Web store.

Google Chrome Web Store (in English) has the HP Print for Chrome app as well as other apps for your Chromebook.
Google Cloud Print (in English) can be used to print to many types of HP printers from Chrome.

Android

Your Android device might not require additional software. If you need a solution for an HP printer, download the HP Print Service Plugin from the Google Play store.

Google Play Store (in English) has several apps from HP to help you with your HP product.

Linux

Chances are, your Linux computer already has the software it needs, as all major Linux distributions regularly integrate HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) into their software releases. To get the latest release of HPLIP, visit the HPLIP website.

HP Linux Imaging and Printing (in English) is the primary software download for HP Printing solutions in Linux.
Linux Kernel Archives (in English) contains software and drivers for HP computers running Linux.

Are there non-HP drivers available?

Sometimes, people who participate in the HP Support Forum recommend alternative drivers or workarounds that provide basic functionality for HP products not supported for a specific operating system. You can search existing forum threads for available options, or you can create a new thread, if one concerning your product does not yet exist.
