Setting Up the Product (Hardware)

Introduction
This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
Setup the product
Follow these steps in order.
Step one: Remove the packing material
Remove all of the tape and packing material from the outside and the inside of the product.
  1. Remove the tape from the outside of the lid, and then open it.
  2. Pull the paper tray down.
  3. Remove the packing material from the inside of the product, including the packing material from the carriage.

Step two: Connect the supplied power cord and power adapter

  1. Plug the cord from the power supply into the back of the product.
  2. Plug the power cord into the back of the power supply.
  3. Plug the other end of the power cord into a grounded wall outlet.
Step three: Turn on the power
Press the Power button () to turn the product on.

Step four: Load paper into the tray
Follow these steps to load plain paper or photo paper into the tray.
  1. Flip the tray extender over so that it is parallel with the paper tray.

  2. Close the lid.
  3. Press the tab in on the top of the paper width guide, and then slide the paper width guide all the way to the left side.

  4. Insert a small stack of paper into the paper tray, and then slide the paper width guide firmly against the paper.

  5. Close the lid.

  2. Close the lid.
  3. Press the tab in on the top of the paper width guide, and then slide the paper width guide all the way to the left side.

  4. Place the photo paper in the right side of the tray. Insert the printed side face down, with the short edge pointed toward the product.

     note:
    If the photo paper you are loading has a tear off tab, make sure that the tab is pointing away from the product.
  5. Push the paper into the product until it stops.
  6. Slide the paper guide firmly against the edge of the paper.
Step five: Install the cartridges
  1. Remove the cartridge from its packaging, and then carefully remove the plastic tape.

     caution:
    Do not touch the copper contacts on the back of the cartridge or the ink nozzles on the bottom of the cartridge. Touching the contacts or the nozzles might damage the cartridge.

  2. Open the lid and wait for the carriage to move to the middle of the product. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
  3. Hold the tricolor cartridge in front of the left slot, with the copper contacts facing down and toward the printer.

  4. With the front of the cartridge pointed up slightly, insert the cartridge into the slot.
  5. Press firmly until the cartridge clicks into place.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the black cartridge. Insert the black cartridge into the slot on the right.
     note:
    A black cartridge might not be included with your product. A black cartridge is not required to operate the product.
  7. Close the lid.
