HP Deskjet D1300, D1400, and D1500 Printer Series - Blinking Power Light

1. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
2. On the rear of the product, press the handle to the right, and then pull out the door to remove it.

3. Gently pull out any jammed paper from the rear of the product.

     caution:

   If the paper tears when removing it from the rollers, check the rollers for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the product. If any torn pieces of paper remain inside the product, more paper jams are likely to occur.

4. Reattach the rear access door. Align the pegs on the right side of the door, and then push the door forward until it snaps into place.

1. Make sure that the power cord is disconnected from the rear of the product. If the power cord is not disconnected, disconnect it now.
2. Open the cover on the product.

3. Gently pull the paper out of the rollers.
4. Close the cover on the product.
5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
6. Press the Power button () to turn the product on.

1. With the product turned on, open the cover on the product. The carriage might move to the center of the product. Allow it to move to that position.

2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
3. Unplug the power cord from the power source or electrical outlet.

     warning:

   You must unplug the power cord to move the carriage by hand and reset the paper feed mechanism without risk of electrical shock.

4. Check for any paper or object that might be restricting the carriage.

     caution:

   If the paper tears when you remove it from the rollers, check the rollers for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the product. If pieces of paper remain in the product, more paper jams can occur.

5. Reach inside through the front of the product, and then manually move the carriage.
   • If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the product, move the carriage to the left side of the product.
   • If the carriage is stuck on the left side of the product, move the carriage to the right side of the product.
   • If the carriage is stuck in the middle of the product, move the carriage to the right side of the product.
6. Remove any loose paper or obstructions found.
7. Make sure that the carriage can move freely across the width of the product. Gently push the carriage to the left and then to the right.
8. Close the cover on the product.
9. Reattach the rear access door. Align the pegs on the right side of the door, and then push the door forward until it snaps into place.
10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
11. Reconnect the power cord to the power source.
12. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

1. Make sure that the product is turned on.
2. Press and hold the Power button ().
3. While holding the Power button, open and close the product cover four times.

4. Release the Power button (). The self-test report prints.

• If these steps resolved the issue, and the test page prints, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
• If the issue persists, continue with the next solution.
• If the test page does not print, continue with the next solution.

1. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
2. Remove the rear access door. Press in the tab on the left of the door, and then pull out the door.

3. Dampen a lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from the cloth.

     caution:

   Tap water might damage the product.

4. Press the cloth against the rollers and rotate them upward with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove dust or dirt buildup.

5. Allow the rollers to dry completely.
6. Reattach the rear access door. Align the pegs on the right side of the door, and then push the door forward until it snaps into place.

7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
8. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

• If these steps resolved the issue, and the test page prints, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
• If the issue persists, continue with the next solution.
• If the test page does not print, continue with the next solution.

  caution:

Do not remove jammed paper at this stage. Trying to clear jammed paper from the front of the product can damage theprint mechanism.

1. Open the cartridge access door and wait a moment for the cartridges to come to the center.
2. Press down on the end of the problem cartridge to snap it out of the carriage.

3. If there is tape on the cartridge, remove it. Do not remove the copper-colored strip.

4. Re-insert the cartridge. Place it in its slot at a slight angle, and then press up and forward until the cartridge snaps into position.

   • The black or photo cartridge goes on the right.
   • The tricolor cartridge goes on the left.

1. Gather the following items to clean the cartridge and carriage:
   • Clean distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available. Tap water can contain contaminants that damage the cartridge.
   • Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well).
   • Sheets of paper or a paper towel to rest the cartridge on during cleaning.
2. Open the cover on the product and wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
3. Remove the cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.

   note:

   Clean the contacts quickly so that the cartridge is not outside of the product for more than 30 minutes. If the cartridge is outside of the product for too long, the ink can dry and clog the nozzles.

4. Disconnect the product from the electrical outlet.
5. Dip a swab in the clean water and squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp.
6. Clean the cartridge contacts.

     caution:

   Do not touch the ink nozzles.

7. Clean the contacts in the carriage, inside the product.

8. Either let the cartridge sit for 10 minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.
9. Reinstall the cartridge.
10. Reconnect the product to the electrical outlet.
11. Close the cover on the product.

• If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
• If the issue persists, see the next step.

note:

If you do not have a replacement cartridge, you can still print in ink backup mode. Remove the problem cartridge, and then print with the remaining cartridge.

• If you remove the tri-color cartridge, printouts will be in grayscale.
• If you remove the black or photo cartridge, the product prints slowly and the colors in the printouts might not appear as expected.

1. Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
2. Open the cover on the product, and then wait for the carriage to move to the center of the product.
3. When the carriage is idle and silent, press down lightly on the cartridge to release it, and then slide it out of the carriage.

4. Remove the cartridge from its package, and then carefully use the pink pull-tab to remove the plastic tape.

   note:

   Do not touch the copper-colored electrical contacts or the ink nozzles. Touching these parts can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

5. Open the cover on the product, and then wait for the carriage to move to the middle of the product.
6. When the carriage is idle and silent, hold the cartridge in front of the left slot, with the copper contacts facing down and toward the product.
7. Hold the cartridge with the front of the cartridge pointed up slightly, and then insert the cartridge into the slot.

8. Press firmly until the cartridge clicks into place.

     caution:

   When pressing the cartridge into the slot, do not rest your hand on top of the product for leverage. This might cause the carriage to lift out of position.

9. Repeat steps 3 through 8 for the black cartridge, inserting it into the slot on the right.

   note:

   The black cartridge might not be included withyour product. It is not required to operate the product.

10. Close the top cover.
