This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
HP Deskjet Color Printer Series - Setting Up the Product (Hardware)
Setup the product
Follow these steps in order.
Step one: Remove the packing material
Remove all packaging materials from the exterior and interior of the product.

Step two: Connect the supplied power cord
Plug the power cord into the back of the product, and then plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.Figure : Connect the power cord
Press the Power button () to turn on the product. Make sure the power light glows green.
Step three: Load plain paper
Lift the top cover, and then fold the paper tray down.Figure : Fold the paper tray down
Load plain white paper into the paper tray, and then slide the paper guide firmly against the paper.Figure : Load paper
Step four: Install the cartridges
Remove the cartridge from its packaging and carefully remove the pink plastic tape. Hold the cartridge so that the copper strips are on the bottom and facing toward the product.Figure : Remove tape from cartridge
caution:Do not touch the copper contacts on the back of the cartridge or the ink nozzles on the bottom of the cartridge. Touching the contacts or the nozzles might damage the cartridge.Figure : Do not touch contacts or ink nozzles
Hold the cartridge so that the copper strips are on the back and facing the product, and then slide the cartridge into the cradle.
note:Some models can print using only a single cartridge (black or tricolor). However, you should use both the color and the black cartridges together for maximum print quality.Figure : Insert the cartridge
Repeat steps 1 through 3 until both of the cartridges are inserted.
After installing the cartridges, close the cover. You will hear the carriage move to the left side of the product.
note:After the carriage moves, some products automatically align the cartridges and print an alignment sheet.
