HP PCs - How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer

This document pertains to HP computers with Microsoft Windows.
This document explains how you can determine which edition and version of Windows operating system is on your computer. Knowing the Windows edition and version is necessary when installing other software or system updates from HP, such as services packs or BIOS updates.
The Windows edition refers to the name of a major release of Windows by Microsoft.
Examples of Windows editions:
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 8 Pro
  • Windows 7 Home Premium
The Windows version refers to a type of an edition.
Examples of Windows versions:

  • 64-bit
  • Service Pack 2
To find the Windows edition and version on your computer, press Windows key + Pause/Break key.
