Copying Photos from a Camera to Your Computer (Windows 7)

This document pertains to HP and Compaq computers with a memory card reader, and a digital camera.
Camera memory cards have a limited amount of space, and can sometimes fill up quickly. In addition, photos cannot be viewed or shared as easily while they are still on the camera. Import your photos into Windows Photo Viewer from your camera to make more room on your camera memory card, and so you can view, organize and share them.
Step 1: Connecting the camera or the memory card to your computer
Before you can transfer photos from your camera to your computer, you must first connect the hardware containing the digital photographs to your computer using one of the following methods:
Step 2: Transferring photos using the Import Pictures and Videos feature
  1. After your hardware has been connected, the Import Pictures and Videos screen opens.
  2. If you would like the filenames on each file to start with a name, other than simply a number, then type a name in the field provided. Otherwise, leave the field blank.

  1. Click Start , click Pictures, click Libraries, and then click Pictures.
  2. Open the folder containing the picture you want to view.
  3. Use one of the following options to open the Windows Photo Viewer:
    • Double click on a picture.
    • On the toolbar, click the Preview button.
  4. Use the buttons at the bottom of the screen to change the size of the picture, rotate the picture, or start a slideshow.
Many more editing, storing, and sharing options are available from Windows Live Photo Gallery. To learn more about additional features, see Windows Live Photo Gallery.
