Using HP MyRoom to Connect with People over the Internet

This document pertains to HP and Compaq computers with an Internet connection.
HP MyRoom enables you to meet with contacts over the Internet. In a meeting you can share video and audio as well as share a portion or all of the desktop. HP MyRoom is available as a free download from HP.
Installing HP MyRoom
Follow these steps to install HP MyRoom on the computer:
  1. Click the HP MyRoom installation icon () on the desktop (select models only)
    OR
    Open a Web browser and go to https://www.rooms.hp.com/myroom.
    The MyRoom download page opens.
  2. Select your language, and then click Download Now.

  3. If a Security Warning window opens, click Run.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Continue clicking Next until the installation is complete.
  6. Click Close.

  7. If a message displays to restart the computer, save all open files and close all programs, then click Yes to finish installation.

Creating an HP MyRoom account
Before you can communicate with others using HP MyRoom, you must set up an account. Follow these steps to create an HP MyRoom account:
  1. Click the HP MyRoom icon () on the desktop
    OR
    Click Start , All Programs, HP MyRoom, then click HP MyRoom.
  2. Accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Continue.

  3. Click Create New Account.

  4. Enter your name, email address and a password. Select your language, then click Create Account.

  5. Check your email inbox for a message from HP MyRoom detailing how to activate your account. Follow the instructions to activate the account.
     note:
    It may take several minutes for the email to reach your inbox. Depending on your account settings, the email may also go to the spam or junk mail folder.
Using MyRoom
Use these steps to use HP MyRoom to communicate with contacts via two-way video chat and Voice Over IP (VOIP). You can also share your desktop with a contact.
  1. Use one of the following methods to open MyRoom:
    • Click the HP MyRoom icon () on the desktop.
    • Click the HP MyRoom icon () on the taskbar.
    • Click Start , All Programs, HP MyRoom, then click HP MyRoom.
  2. Enter your email address and password, then click Sign In.

Click the Settings icon () to open MyRoom Settings.

HP MyRoom Troubleshooting
Use the following sections to troubleshoot problems with HP MyRoom.
I never received a confirmation email from HP MyRoom.
If you do not receive a confirmation email from HP MyRoom, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check your email Spam or Junk Mail folder.
  2. Perform the steps in Creating an HP MyRoom account again, making sure to type the correct email address.
  3. Create an HP MyRoom account again, using a different email address.
I cannot sign into HP MyRoom.
If you cannot sign into HP MyRoom, follow the instructions for the message that displays:
  • User not found
    Did you activate your HP MyRoom account using the email sent to the account you used to sign up? If not, check your email inbox for the message and activate the account. If you did not receive an email, perform the steps in Creating an HP MyRoom account again.
    If you have activated your HP MyRoom account, make sure you typed the email address correctly and then try to sign in again.
  • Invalid Password
    Enter the password again, making sure to type it exactly as you entered it when you created your account. The password is case-sensitive. If you have forgotten your password, click Forgot Password? on the HP MyRoom Sign-In page.
I forgot my password.
If you forget your password, click Forgot Password? on the HP MyRoom Sign-In page. Instructions on resetting the password are sent to your email address. You may need to check the Spam or Junk Mail folder.

I cannot connect to HP MyRoom.
If you can sign in, but not connect to HP MyRoom, perform the following steps:
  1. Make sure the computer is connected to the Internet.
  2. If required by your Internet Service Provider, enter the Proxy information to enable access to HP MyRoom:
    1. Click the Settings icon () to open HP MyRoom Settings.
    2. Click Connection.
      Enter the proxy authentication information.

      To enter the Proxy and Port information, remove the check next to Let MyRoom find its own connection.

    3. Click Save.
    4. Try to connect to HP MyRoom again.
I cannot send video using HP MyRoom.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot problems sending video:
  1. Test the video device using MyRoom settings:
    1. Click the Settings icon () to open MyRoom Settings.
    2. Click Video.
    3. Select the video capture device, and then click Test Video.

    4. If video displays, the capture device is working correctly in HP MyRoom. If the video does not display, continue to the next step.
  2. Use a different program to make sure the video device is working. For more information, see Troubleshooting Webcams in Windows 7.
I cannot send audio using HP MyRoom
Follow these steps to troubleshoot problems using the microphone in HP MyRoom:
  1. Test the microphone using MyRoom settings:
    1. Click the Settings icon () to open MyRoom Settings.
    2. Click Audio.
    3. Set the sound input (microphone) device, and then click Test Audio.

    4. Speak into the microphone. The voice level should move above the white threshold line. If it does move above the line, HP MyRoom is recognizing the microphone. If it does not, try moving up the level. If the level still does not rise above the line, continue with the next step.

  2. Test the microphone using Windows Sound Recorder.
    1. Plug the microphone into the computer.
    2. Click Start , All Programs, Accessories, and select Sound Recorder.
    3. Click Start Recording (the red circle) and speak into the microphone.

    4. When finished recording, click Stop Recording.

      A save screen automatically opens.
    5. Type a filename and click Save. A file of type WAV or WMA is created in the Documents folder.

    6. Find and double-click the filename of your recording to play back the recorded sound. The file should play from the sound software that is associated with the audio file type - either WAV or WMA. You can open the sound file using Windows Media Player.
