HP PCs - How to Change or Reset Password (Windows 10)

This document pertains to HP computers with Windows 10.
Use this document to reset the password you use to sign in to Windows 10. This document does not address password recovery for email or other accounts.
Step 2: Determine which type of account you have and reset the password
Windows features the option to sign in to your computer using either a Microsoft account or a local user account.
A Microsoft account is set up using an email address, and is used across other Microsoft services (OneDrive, Skype, Outlook, Xbox and more). If you use a Microsoft account to sign in to your computer, you can reset your password online. Use any device connected to the Internet to open the Microsoft password reset page (in English) and follow the steps to reset your password.
If you did not set up a Microsoft account, continue to the next step to reset your local account password.
Step 3: Reset your password on a local account
Use one of the following options to reset the password for your local account:
 note:
Before attempting to reset your computer account password, make sure that you are using the correct keyboard settings, and try all available methods to sign in to your account. Try turning caps lock on and off, use an alternative sign-in method (PIN or picture password, if available), or change your keyboard layout if you have multiple layouts set up in Windows.
Step 4: Reset your local password when no other option is available
If you do not have a Microsoft account, there are no other accounts in Windows with administrator rights, and you do not have a password reset disk, try one of these other options:
