HP Wireless Printers - Printing with Wi-Fi Direct

Most HP wireless printers released in late 2014 and later support Wi-Fi Direct. Supported printers have a WI-Fi Direct icon or button
on the control panel. If your printer control panel does not have the icon, navigate to the Network Setup or Wireless Settings menu and confirm if a Wi-Fi Direct menu item displays. -
For printers without a control panel, press the Information button
to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. If the printer does not have an Information button, press and hold the Resume button
for 2 seconds to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. -
Android 4.0 and later tablets and phones with the HP Print Service Plugin (recommended) or Mopria Print Service installed.

Most Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 computers, tablets, and laptops that have the HP printer driver installed.

Install the latest version of HP Print Service Plugin (recommended) or Mopria Print Service on your Android mobile device. You can download these plugins from the Google Play Store or another Android app provider, depending on your region.

On your printer, turn on Wi-Fi Direct.

For printers with a control panel, touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon
to display the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. -
For printers without a control panel, press the Information button
to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. -
If the printer does not have an Information button, press and hold the Resume button
for 2 seconds to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.

If the option displays, select Automatic to print without a password, or select Manual to confirm the print job from the printer or to require a password.

On the Android device, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure that it is set to On. You do not need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Open the photo or document that you want to print, and then tap Print from the app menu, or use the Share option from an app to send the content to the print plugin.

Confirm that DIRECT-xx-HP [your printer model name] displays as your printer on the print plugin settings screen. If a different printer name displays, tap the name to display a list of available printers, and then select DIRECT-xx-HP [your printer model name].
note:
If the printer name does not display, you might be out of range of the Wi-Fi Direct signal. Move your device and printer closer together. -
Tap Print.
note:
While the mobile device is connected using Wi-Fi Direct, it is not connected to the local network or the Internet. Make sure the photo or document you want to print is already stored on your mobile device before turning on Wi-Fi Direct.

On your printer, turn on Wi-Fi Direct.

For printers with a control panel, touch the Wi-Fi Direct icon
to display the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. -
For printers without a control panel, press the Information button
to print a report that includes the Wi-Fi Direct name and password. -
If the printer does not have an Information button, press and hold the Resume button

If the option displays, select Automatic to require a simple password of 12345678 to connect to the printer, or select Manual to generate a more secure randomly generated password that users must obtain from the printer.

On the mobile device, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, and then select DIRECT-xx-HP [your printer model name] from the list of available networks.
note:
If the printer name does not display, you might be out of range of the Wi-Fi Direct signal. Move your device and printer closer together. -
If prompted, type the Wi-Fi Direct password.

Open the photo or document that you want to print, and then tap Print from the app menu or the action menu.
note:
If the app does not support printing, use the Share option from the app to share the content to the HP Print Service Plugin. -
Select your printer model from the list of available printers, and then tap Print.

Reconnect the mobile device to your normal wireless network after the print job completes.
note:
For unsupported devices, the Wi-Fi Direct connection is for printer use only. While the computer is connected to your printer using Wi-Fi Direct, it is not connected to the local network or the Internet. Make sure the photo or document you want to print is already stored on your computer before turning on Wi-Fi Direct.

After printing has finished, reconnect the computer to your normal wireless network.
