Can I install a different operating system, such as Windows, on my Chromebook?
No, you cannot install different operating systems on your Chromebook.
Your Chromebook comes with Chrome OS installed. The firmware and BIOS are tailored for Chrome and no other operating system can be installed.
How do I update drivers on my Chromebook?
It is not necessary to manually update drivers on Chromebooks.
Google provides automatic system updates over the Internet. HP does not provide driver updates for Chromebook.
Can I reset or recover my Chromebook?
Yes, you can reset or recover your Chromebook.
To reset your Chromebook to its original factory state, deleting all stored data and clearing account permissions, perform the steps in Reset your Chromebook (in English) from Chrome OS Help.
To recover your Chromebook, installing a new version of Chrome OS and resetting the privileges for your primary account, perform the steps in Recover your Chromebook (in English) from Chrome OS Help.
How do I install software on my Chromebook, like my favorite game?
Applications for your Chromebook are installed from the Chrome Web Store.
You can find Chrome apps, extensions, and themes in the Chrome Web Store (in English), an online marketplace featuring both free and paid downloadable content.
note:Chrome does not support Android apps; Android is a separate operating system.
How do I surf the Internet on my Chromebook?
Surf the Internet on your Chromebook using the Chrome Web browser.
Click the Chrome browser icon to begin a browsing session. Type a Web address or search term into the omnibox (the browser's address bar) at the top of the page. For more information, refer to Browse the web (in English) from Chrome OS Help.
Can I use my Chromebook without an Internet connection?
Yes, you can run some apps and media features offline on your Chromebook.
Certain applications can be used without an Internet connection. The Chrome Web Store (in English) features a section dedicated to offline apps (examples include: Solitaire, Calculator, and Scratchpad). Some apps may require additional setup before they can be used offline (examples include: Gmail Offline, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Play Books).
The built-in image editor allows you to edit images without an Internet connection, and the media player apps play music, video, and image files stored locally or on external storage media. The PDF viewer loads and views PDF files offline.
How do I open files on my Chromebook?
Use the Files app to open files on your Chromebook.
The Files app is an integrated file manager. To open the Files app, press Ctrl + m on the keyboard, or click the apps list button and then click the Files app icon .
The Files app navigation panel displays all the drives on your Chromebook, including:
Downloads: Files stored locally on the Chromebook hard drive.Figure : Downloads
Google Drive: Files stored online in your Google Drive, a cloud storage service.Figure : Google Drive
External storage drives: Any external storage device (such as a memory card or USB flash drive) connected to the Chromebook.Figure : USB drive

What types of files can I open on my Chromebook?
Refer to the Chrome OS Help Web site for a list of supported file types on your Chromebook.

Where do I save files on my Chromebook?
You can use local (hard drive) storage, cloud storage, and external storage to save files on your Chromebook.
The HP Chromebook comes with a hard drive for local storage. Files saved locally are stored in the Downloads folder. You can also save to external storage media, such as an SD card or a USB flash drive.
Chromebooks come with Google Drive, a built-in Google Cloud Storage service. You can save files directly to Google Drive, which allows you to:
Access and transfer files stored on the Web using any Internet-connected device.
Share files with others, and save files shared by other people.
Sync files to local storage for offline access.

How do I print from my Chromebook?
Use Google Cloud Print to print from your Chromebook.
Google Cloud Print allows you to access printers from your Chromebook without installing drivers or plugging in cables. To learn more about Google Cloud Print, visit the Google Cloud Print Web page (in English).
What keyboard shortcuts can I use on my Chromebook?
Press the Ctrl + Alt + ? keys to open a map of keyboard shortcuts.
The Chromebook keyboard layout, dedicated shortcut keys, and available keyboard shortcuts, all differ from traditional keyboards. When signed in on your Chromebook, open an on-screen guide to keyboard functions by holding down the Ctrl + Alt + ? keys. I plugged in a USB device on my Chromebook and it does not work. Why?
USB devices that require drivers are not supported on Chromebooks.
Chromebooks do not support USB devices that require drivers (for example, printers and drawing tablets).
USB CD/DVD drives connected to Chromebooks function as read-only devices - meaning they read data from a disc, but cannot write data to a disc. Chromebook computers can read data DVDs but cannot play DVD movies.
The following USB devices should work, in most cases:
Headphones and audio devices
USB drives and external storage
If a USB device from the above list does not work, try the following troubleshooting steps:
Remove the USB device.
Restart your computer.
Reinsert the USB device.
If the device is still not working, try using a different USB port, if one is available.
Can I connect a Bluetooth device to my Chromebook?
Currently, only Bluetooth mice and keyboards are supported in Chrome OS.
While Bluetooth is available on your HP Chromebook, it only functions with certain devices, such as Bluetooth mice and keyboards. It does not work with other devices, such as speakers, headsets, and smartphones.

Do I need a data plan for my Chromebook?
All HP Chromebooks can connect to the Internet using either Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. For certain HP Chromebooks that support mobile broadband connection, a data plan is required.
Do I need to install virus protection on my Chromebook?
No antivirus software is needed on your Chromebook.
Chromebooks come with built-in malware and virus protection, with multiple layers of security:
Automatic update system: Virus protection stays up-to-date automatically, so you are always running the latest and most secure version. Chrome manages your updates silently in the background.
Sandboxing: Each Web page and application runs in a restricted "sandbox" environment. If one tab is infected, it can't infect other tabs, apps, or anything else on your Chromebook.
Verified boot: The HP Chromebook automatically checks itself for tampering and corruption on startup. If a problem is detected, the system repairs itself, if possible.
Data encryption: All data is encrypted for each account, meaning that you must be signed in to access your data, and no other person can access data from a different account.

How do I save a picture from a webpage?
Use your mouse to save pictures.
To save a picture from a webpage:
Open your browser to the webpage with the picture you want to save.
Position your cursor over the picture, and right click it.
Click Save Picture As from the drop-down menu.
In the Save Picture dialog box that opens, browse to the folder where you want to save the file, and then click Save.
