Printing with HP Wireless Direct

Introduction
If you want to print wirelessly from your computer or mobile device, you can use HP wireless direct printing.
HP wireless direct printing is a feature that allows you to print directly to your HP printer without a network, using a direct peer to peer wireless connection. The instructions in this document provide steps to print with wireless direct printing using your computer, Apple's AirPrint, the HP ePrint mobile app, and the HP ePrint Home & Biz.
Printing with HP wireless direct
Follow these steps to print from your computer or mobile device using wireless direct. Your HP printer does not need to be on a wireless network.
Step one: Print a Network Configuration Page
The page shows the network or wireless settings for the printer.
  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Load plain, white paper in the paper tray.
  3. On the printer control panel, press the Network Information button (). The printer prints the page.
Step two: Open the embedded web server (EWS)
The HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) is an interface, like a webpage, that allows you to view printer status information, change settings, and manage the printer from your computer. Follow these steps to open the EWS.
  1. On the Network Configuration Page, find the IP address. The set of numbers listed next to it is the Internet Protocol address (IP address).

  2. On your computer, open a web browser (for example, Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
  3. In the browser's address line, type http:// followed by the IP address exactly as it is listed on the Network Configuration Page you printed in a previous step.

  4. Press Enter. The printer's EWS home page opens.
    • I got a security certificate error. What do I do?
If the message 'There is a problem with this website's security certificate' appears in the Web browser when you try to open the EWS, or when you navigate within the EWS, click ' Continue to this website (not recommended)'.
       note:
Choosing ' Continue to this website (not recommended)' will not harm your computer while you navigate within the EWS for your printer. If you encounter this error outside of your printer's EWS, your computer could be at risk.
If the browser fails to open the EWS after you click ' Continue to this website (not recommended)', refresh the browser window.
Step three: Enable HP Web Services
  1. In the EWS, click the Web Services tab.
  2. Click Setup, and then click Continue.
  3. Accept the terms of use, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  4. If prompted, choose to allow the printer to check for and install printer updates. The printer downloads and installs available updates and then restarts.
  5. When the printer is connected to the server, the printer prints an information page. Follow the instructions on the information page to finish the setup.
Step four: Print from your computer or mobile device
Choose one of the following options to print from your computer or mobile device.
