A 'Fatal Error' message displays on the computer at 96% completion of your HP product software installation.

Solution one: Download and install the latest HP Update software
Step one: Restart the computer
Cancel out of the HP installation program, and then follow these steps to restart the computer.
Step two: Download and install the latest HP Update Software
HP Update (HPU) is a software utility that delivers and installs drivers, fixes, and critical software updates for HP computers and printers. Install HPU on your computer and the software proactively notifies you when an update is available.
  1. Click this link, HP Update Software. If prompted, type your printer model number, click Next, and then click Drivers
  2. Make sure that your operating system is selected, and then click Next.
  3. Scroll down the page, and then click Update.
  4. Click HP Update Software Utility.
  5. Click Download, and then follow the on-screen instructions to save the software to your computer.
  6. Open the folder where the software file saved (usually Downloads), double-click the file, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  7. Try to re-install your HP printer software again.
  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.
Solution two: Edit the Hard Drive Security Settings
Select your operating system, and then follow the steps in the order presented to edit the hard drive security settings. These steps enable you to change the access restrictions to folders on the hard drive that might have prevented the installation of the HP product software.
