Gather the following items:
-
Network name: The network name is the SSID.
-
Security passphrase (WEP key or WPA)
-
A computer that is connected to the wireless network
-
Internet access (recommended): HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
note:
Internet access is not required for you to install your printer with a wireless connection. However, you do need Internet access to use Web Services, get printer updates, and to download drivers from the HP website. -
Your wireless-capable printer: Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.

Make sure the printer, router, and computer are all turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network you want to connect the printer to.

Disconnect the USB cable if it is connected to the printer.
-
Optional: If you previously installed the software for a USB connection and now want to change to a wireless network connection, remove the USB installation before you continue.

Search Windows for your printer model name, then click the printer name in the list of results.The printer software opens.

Click Utilities, then click Printer Setup & Software Selection.
-
Click Convert a USB connected printer to wireless or Connect a new printer depending on your version of Windows.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection. Once the printer has been set up on the wireless network, there is no need to continue with the steps in this document.

Turn on the printer.

If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.

If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, and then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.

Click Download next to the full feature driver (recommended), or click Basic Drivers for other driver options.

When prompted, select the Connect through a wireless network option.
-
When prompted, connect the USB cable
to the computer. -
When the installation is complete, print a configuration report to make sure the printer has an SSID name.

Make sure the Ready light
is on and that the printer is idle and silent. -
Press and hold the Cancel button
, and release it when the Ready light
begins blinking.The Configuration report prints.

When the Configuration Report prints, disconnect the USB cable
from the printer. Your printer is now set up to use over a wireless network connection.
note:
If your printer was set up and working with Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard or OS X v10.7 Lion, your printer continues to work as it did before you updated your Mac to a later OS X version. The HP printer driver and software you previously installed updates automatically during the operating system update process.

Make sure your network is already set up: Before you can install the printer, your wireless network must be set up. Follow the instructions that came with your router or access point to set up the wireless network.

Make sure your wireless-capable printer, router, and computer are all turned on, and that the computer is connected to the wireless network.

Exit all applications running on your computer.
-
Turn off the Wireless setting. If the Wireless light is on, press the Wireless button
on the printer control panel to turn off wireless.
note:
This method requires a WPS-enabled wireless router to connect to the printer.

Press the WPS button on your wireless router.
-
On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button
. The wireless light starts to blink. -
Wait up to two minutes while the printer establishes a network connection with the wireless router.Once the printer connects to the router, the wireless light is solid.
note:
If the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) method is not successful, try another connection method.
note:
AirPort Utility 6v.3 is the last version that supports the Wireless Client Setup Assistant. If you have a newer version, choose a different method to connect your printer to a wireless network.

From the Dock, click Finder.
-
Click Applications, click Utilities, and then click AirPort Utility.
-
On the right panel, verify that the AirPort Utility is version 5.6 or earlier.
-
Double-click AirPort Utility, and then click Manual Setup.
-
On the menu bar, click Base Station, and then click Add Wireless Clients....
-
Click First Attempt, and then click Continue.
-
On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button
.The Wireless light starts to blink. -
Wait up to two minutes while the printer establishes a network connection with the wireless router. Once the printer connects to the router, the wireless light is solid and the printer name displays in the Wireless Client Setup Assistant window.

Click Done.If the Wireless Client Setup Assistant method is not successful, try another connection method.

Search the Mac for Print and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.Figure : Example of a printer in the Printers & Scanners window

Check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. Do one of the following steps, depending on if the printer is listed or not.

If your printer is listed, click the printer name, then continue with the remaining steps.

If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign
, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue with the remaining steps.

Click the Use or Print Using box, then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu.Figure : Example of selecting your printer in the Use menu

Click Add to add the printer to the list.If you are prompted to install your printer software from Apple, click Download and Install to complete the installation.

Close the System Preferences window.

Make sure your Mac is turned on.

Exit all applications running on your computer.
-
Turn on your printer, and then make sure that it has paper in the tray and that it is in a ready state.
-
Connect the USB cable to the printer and to the Mac. A print queue is automatically created for your printer, and the printer software automatically installs on your computer. If the Mac already has current software for your printer, the print queue is created in the background.
note:
If you are prompted to install any additional software for your printer, click Install, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation. -
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
-
Click Printers & Scanners or Print & Scan, and then make sure that your printer is in the list of available devices.If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign (
) at the bottom of the left pane, click the name of your USB printer, and then click Add.note:
Quit and restart any applications that were open before adding the printer to use the updated HP software features.

Search the Mac for Print and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.

Click Open Print Queue, and then click Printer Setup.
-
Click the Utility tab, and then click Open Printer Utility.
-
Click HTMLConfig.
-
Click the Networking tab, and then click Wireless from the list on the left.
-
Under Communication Mode, click Infrastructure, select your network SSID from the Available Network Names (SSID) list, and then click the << button.
-
From the Security Mode pop-up menu under Authentication, click WEP or WPA/WPA2. Your selection depends on the wireless security protocol your network uses.
note:
If your network does not have wireless security, leave the Security Mode set to Open System (No Authentication). -
Type your WEP/WPA/WPA2 key in the appropriate field, and then click Apply.

In the confirmation box, click OK, and then close the HTML Config and Print Queue windows.

Search the Mac for Print and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.Figure : Example of a printer in the Printers & Scanners window

Click your printer name, and then click the Minus sign
to remove it.note:
This removes the USB connection from the list so that the only entry for your printer is the wireless connection. -
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and the computer.

Under Printers, click the Plus sign
. -
Select your printer name with Bonjour as the Kind, and then click Add.
note:
AirPrint is not available if the printer connects to the Mac, an AirPort Base Station, or a Time Capsule with a USB cable.

Make sure your network is already set up. Follow the instructions that came with your router or access point to set up the wireless network.

Make sure your wireless-capable printer, router, and computer are all turned on, and that the printer is connected to the wireless network.

Exit all applications running on your computer.

Turn on the printer.

If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.

If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, and then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.

Click Firmware, and then click Download.

Use the HP Download and Install Assistant for a guided firmware download and installation, or select Download only to manually open or run the driver file through your Internet browser’s download tools.

Turn on the printer, and make sure that it has paper in the tray and that it is in a ready state.

Make sure that the printer is connected to the wireless or wired (Ethernet) network.

Search the Mac for Print and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.

Click the plus sign
at the bottom of the left pane. -
Under Nearby Printers, click the name of your printer.
note:
Make sure the printer kind is Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction. -
Click the Use box, and then select AirPrint from the pop-up menu if it is not selected already.Figure : Selecting an AirPrint printer in the Add window

Click Add to add the printer to the queue.
