An Apple iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch that runs iOS 4.2 or lateriOS 4.2 or later can be installed as an update to a current or older Apple device, or should already be installed on a new Apple iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.

Not all features are compatible with all Apple devices. AirPrint and multitasking are available on iPad (all models), iPhone (3GS or later), and iPod touch (third generation or later). -
An HP printer that supports AirPrintHP wireless printers released in 2010 and later support AirPrint.

A private wireless networkThe Apple device (iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch) and the HP printer must be connected to the same private 802.11 wireless network. AirPrint uses Bonjour, Apple's zero-configuration networking, to automatically discover your wireless printer over the local network.

Apps that support AirPrintMany Apple apps support AirPrint, including Safari, Mail, Photos, and iWorks. Additionally, other popular apps available in the App Store are supported.To print from an app, tap the Action icon (

), and then tap Print to print with AirPrint. note:
If the Action icon or the Print button does not display, the app does not support AirPrint at this time. -
Note the following unsupported items:

AirPrint is not supported through public wireless networks such as public Wi-Fi hotspots, Bluetooth connections, or on cellular 3G or 4G data connections.

AirPrint is supported on OS X v10.7 Lion or later.
-
AirPrint is only compatible with HP printers released in 2010 and later. AirPrint is not backward compatible with older products and there is no workaround to enable backward compatibility with older HP products.

On the product control panel, touch Apps, Web Services, or ePrint, depending on your product model.
-
If prompted to enable Web services, touch Yes, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

If prompted to update the product, touch Yes, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Turn on the printer.

If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.

If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, and then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.

Click Firmware, and then click Download.

Apple AirPrint: AirPrint works over your private wireless network to print directly from supported apps on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch (each runs on iOS 4.2 or later) to a compatible HP printer.

HP ePrint: ePrint is a free service from HP that lets you print from any mobile device with email capabilities to any ePrint-enabled printer that you can access. You can simply send an email to print with ePrint, and it requires no additional software or print driver downloads to use the service.

In the app that you want to print from, tap the Action icon (
or

Some apps might not have an Action icon as a feature. If the icon does not display, you cannot print from that particular app with AirPrint. -
Tap Print. The Printer Options menu displays.
note:
Some apps might not offer a print option because the app is not currently compatible with AirPrint. If Print is not an available action option, you cannot print from that particular app with AirPrint. -

If you do not need to change print options, tap Print to send the print job to the HP printer.

If you need to change print options, continue to the next step.

Number of copiesIn the Printer Options menu, tap the Plus sign (
) or the Minus sign (

Move the router away from household items that can interfere with the wireless signal, such as microwave ovens and cordless phones.
-
Move the printer closer to the wireless router.
-
Make sure your router is set at 2.4 GHz.If you are unsure how to check this setting, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
-
Turn off the router, and then turn it on.Contact the router manufacturer for instructions on how to turn off the router.
note:
Do not reset the router. -
Turn off the printer, and then turn it on.
-
Turn off the Apple device.
note:
Do not turn on the Apple device yet. -
Print a Network Configuration page.For instructions on printing a Network Configuration page, go to HP Customer Support. Type your printer model, and then search for the document to "print a configuration page."
-
Check the Active Connection Type in the General Information section on the report. The connection type should be Wireless.
-
Check the status in the 802.11 Wireless section on the report. The status should be Connected. The printer IP Address also displays in the 802.11 section of the report for active wireless connections.
-
Make sure the Network Name (SSID) on the report is the same as the name of the wireless network for your networked printer.
-
If the HP printer is connected to the correct wireless network, continue with these steps.
-
If the HP printer is not connected to the correct wireless network, go to HP Customer Care, type your printer model in the search field, and then browse to the support document about how to connect your printer to a wireless network.
-

Turn on your Apple device.
-
Tap the Settings icon
. -
Tap Wi-Fi.
-
Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on and there is a checkmark next to your wireless network name.
-
Return to the Settings menu, and then make sure Bluetooth is turned off.
-
Move your Apple device closed to the router, but bake sure your Apple device is no closer than 1.8 m (6 ft) to the router.
-
Turn on the printer.
-
If your printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable, disconnect the cable from the printer.
-
If prompted, select a method to identify your printer model, and then follow the on-screen instructions to go to the download page.
-
Click Firmware, and then click Download.
-
Use the HP Download and Install Assistant for a guided firmware download and installation, or select Download only to manually open or run the driver file through your Internet browser’s download tools.

Turn on your Apple device.
-
Tap the Settings icon (
). -
Tap General, and then tap Software Updates.
-
If an update is available, tap Download, and then tap Install or Install Now.

Print a Network Configuration page to obtain the printer IP address needed to view the EWS webpage.For instructions on printing a Network Configuration page, go to HP Customer Support. Type your printer model, and then search for the document to "print a configuration page."

On your computer, open an Internet browser.
-
Type the printer IP address in the browser address bar, and then press Enter.
note:
Make sure to type the IP address into the Internet browser's address box. If typed into a toolbar search box or search engine, the EWS does not open. -
If a website security certificate displays in the Internet browser, click Continue.The EWS information page for the printer opens.
-
Click the Settings tab.
-
Click Security, and then click Administrator Settings.
-
Under Network Settings, select AirPrint, if it is not already selected, and then click Apply.Figure : Selecting AirPrint

Restart the printer.
-
If your router supports Bonjour, skip to the next step.
-
If your router does not support Bonjour, use a router that supports Bonjour or add the printer to your printer list using the IP tab and the printer IP address.Try to print. If the issue persists, continue to the next step.
-
If the printer is found, continue to the next step.
-
If the printer is not found, go to Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
-
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
-
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
-
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
note:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet. -
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
-
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
-
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
-
Make sure the printer is turned on. If the printer is on, turn it off and then on again to see whether that resolves the issue.
-
Make sure that the printer is wirelessly connected to the same network subnet as your iOS device.
-
Make sure that the printer has the latest firmware version installed.
-
Make sure that the printer has paper in the tray, and that ink or toner is not empty.
-
Make sure that there are no error messages on the printer control panel.
note:
Wi-Fi printers can take several minutes to join a Wi-Fi network after they turn on. Make sure that your printer is connected to the Wi-Fi network before you attempt to print.
-
Select a printer: Select from available printers on your local network that you want to print to.
-
Number of copies: Select the number of copies of the document or image that you want to print.
-
Paper: You can select the paper size that you want to print if your printer has an adjustable paper tray that supports different paper sizes.
-
Double-sided printing: You can choose to print on both sides of the paper if your printer supports two-sided (duplex) printing.
-
Page range: You can select certain pages within a document to print. Page range is only available with certain apps and file types, such as PDFs.
-
Number of copiesIn the Printer Options menu, tap the Plus sign (
