HP Notebook PCs - Notebook Does Not Detect Wireless Networks in Windows Vista

This document pertains to HP Pavilion dv6200 Notebook PC series with Windows Vista.
On some models of notebooks, the PC Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) light may indicate the WLAN is on, but the wireless network is not detected. Occasionally, the WLAN is missing in the Device Manager.
These symptoms occur when the BIOS on the notebook has not been updated to the most current version available.
Install the latest BIOS and driver updates
  • To correct this problem, click on the following link to download and install the updated BIOS F.3A or later.
  • If the notebook wireless adapter fails to work after updating the BIOS, go to the HP Drivers and Downloads web page for the specific product, to download and install the updated network drivers
  • If installing the updated BIOS and network driver does not resolve the problem, it may be necessary to replace the wireless LAN card. Click the Contact HP link at the top of this web page, to contact an HP support technician for further assistance.
