HP Officejet Pro K5300 and K5400 Printer Series - Aligning the Printheads

Introduction
After installing a new printhead, the printer automatically aligns the printheads to ensure the best print quality. If the printout is grainy, has stray dots, jagged edges, or the ink is bleeding into another color, manually re-align the printheads.
Align the printheads
Use one of the following methods below to align the printheads in the printer.
Method one: Align the printheads using the printer control panel
Follow the steps below to align the printheads using the control panel.
  1. Press and hold the Power button.
  2. Press the Resume button three times, and then release the Power button.
Method two: Align the printheads using the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Follow the steps below to align the printheads using the EWS.
  1. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape) and type in the IP address of the printer to access the EWS.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click Device Services in the left pane.
  4. Select Align printheads from the drop-down list in the Print Quality section.
  5. Click Run Diagnostic.
Method three: Align the printheads using the print driver
Follow the steps below to align the printheads using the print driver.
  1. Click the Start button, and point to Settings.
  2. Click Printers or Printers and Faxes.
  3. Right-click on the HP Officejet printer icon and select Properties.
  4. On the General tab, click the Printing Preferences... button.
  5. Click the Features tab.
  6. Click the Printer services button.
  7. Click the Services tab.
  8. Click Align the Printheads.
Method four: Align the printheads using the printer Toolbox
Follow the steps below to align the printheads from the printer Toolbox.
  1. Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor () in the icon taskbar at the bottom of the screen near the clock.
  2. Click HP Officejet Pro K5300 or K5400 Series.
  3. Click Display Printer Toolbox. The Printer Toolbox displays on the screen.
  4. Click the Services tab.
  5. Click Print PQ (print quality) diagnostic page.
