HP Photosmart 7550 - Resolving 'Paper Size Mismatch' and 'Photo Tray Engaged' Error Messages or Partially Printed Documents

Introduction
When printing to the Photosmart 7550 printer, a "paper Size Mismatch" or "Photo Tray Engaged" error message appears on the computer screen. In addition, the printer may only print half or partial documents. Consult the two solutions below.
Solution 1
  1. Click the HP Photosmart 7550 Series icon located on the lower right corner of the main Windows screen.
  2. Click Change Default Settings.
  3. Click the Layout tab.
  4. Click Factory Settings.
  5. Click OK.
  6. If a "This will change printer settings" message box appears, click OK.
  7. Verify that sliding the photo tray lever out and away from the printer disengages the photo tray.
  8. Verify that the paper being used is 8½ x 11 supported media.
  9. Try to print an 8½ x 11 document.
     note:
For more information on supported media see BPY20797: HP Photosmart Printers - Media Specifications.
Solution 2
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door of the printer and remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Disconnect the power cable from the printer.
  4. Reconnect only the power cable.
  5. Insert the ink cartridges.
  6. Verify that sliding the photo tray lever out and away from the printer disengages the photo tray.
  7. Verify that the paper being used is 8½ x 11 and supported media.
  8. Press the MENU button on the printer control panel until the Print a Test Page option is given.
  9. Press the OK button.
  10. If the printer prints the test page, follow these steps:
    1. Reconnect the printer to the computer.
    2. Restart the computer.
    3. Print a test page from the computer. Verify that the settings are correct in the print driver. (see Solution 1).
  11. If the Printer generates a "Unsupported Paper Size" error message or if the test page is cut off, follow these steps:
    1. Open the Cartridge door
    2. Disconnect the printer power cable.
    3. Slide the carriage to the left.
    4. Remove the output tray.
    5. Press the photo tray sensor in a downward motion to make sure that the sensor is disengaged (see Figure 1).
