HP Color LaserJet 9500, 9500mfp and LaserJet 9000, 9040mfp/9050mfp and M9040/M9050mfp Series Printers - 66.11.01 Input Device Failure Control Panel Error Message
After initial setup of the HP Color LaserJet 9500, 9500mfp and LaserJet 9000, 9040mfp/9050mfp and M9040/M9050mfp Series Printers equipped with a 2000 sheet input tray the control panel displays the message 66.11.01 Input Device Failure. This can also occur if a 2000-sheet input tray has just been added to an HP LaserJet 9000 Series printer.
During the installation of Tray 4, the Paper Path Connection Unit (PPCU) must be installed inside the right door of the printer. If it is not installed, a 66.11.01 error will be displayed on the printer control panel during start up and the PPCU will need to be installed to resolve the error.
note:With firmware versions 2.6A and newer the control panel message has been changed. Instead of displaying a 66.11.01 Input Device Failure, the control panel will display graphics and information to direct the user how to install the PPCU and where it goes in the 2000 input tray.
SOLUTION: Install the PPCU.
PPCU installation instructions
The PPCU ships along with Tray 4 but in its own separate box. Identify and unpack the PPCU, Figure 1 shows the PPCU unpacked and ready to be installed.Figure : PPCU
Drop it into the slot that is visible after opening the right door of the printer. There are two small levers on the top of the PPCU that need to be pushed toward the middle of the PPCU so that it will drop all the way into position. These same levers need to be pushed in to remove the PPCU as well. See Figure 2 for the location of where the PPCU gets installed.
note:In Figure 2, call-out 1 shows the opening that the PPCU needs to be installed into. The PPCU drops into the slot and snaps into place. Figure 2, call-out 2 shows the PPCU correctly installed.

The PPCU properly installed
If the printer is equipped with a 3000-sheet stacker, or 3000-sheet stacker/stapler, it may initially power up in an error state (amber LED on the stacker or stacker/stapler) if the PPCU has not been installed first.
If this happens, power the printer down, install the PPCU, verify all the cabling is correct and power the printer back up. The LED should now be green.
caution:During installation of the printer, the engine must be installed on Tray 4 before installing the PPCU. If the PPCU is installed first, then the engine fitted to Tray 4, the printer will boot up to a 66.11.01 error.
Power-cycle the printer. The issue should be resolved.

Did the PPCU install properly and did the right door of the printer close completely?
