HP IP/IPX Printer Gateway - Discontinued, How to Enable or Disable the Banner Page in NDPS

Issue:
 note:
HP has a strong commitment to provide support for Novell products. With this commitment in mind, HP has been providing the HP IP/IPX Printer Gateway for NDPS (HP Gateway) to enable printing on Novell networks. However, after careful testing and evaluation, HP believes that the Novell SNMP Printer Gateway (Novell Gateway) is the preferred solution for enabling printing on Novell networks. Therefore, the HP Gateway product has been discontinued as of January 1, 2005.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Novell Gateway as soon as possible. For information about migrating to the Novell Gateway, click here to go to the Novell support Web site. Search for NDPS Printer Agent Conversion Utility.
How to enable or disable the banner page in NDPS.
Solution
The banner can be configured from the NDPS Printer icon in the Printers folder on the client computer or from the NDPS Printer in NWAdmin.
From the Printer icon in the Printers folder
  1. Open the Printers folder.
  2. Highlight the icon for the NDPS Printer and right-click Properties.
  3. Select the NDPS Printer Settings tab.
  4. Select the desired option under the banner drop down menu.
  5. Click OK.
From the NDPS printer in NWAdmin
  1. Double-click the NDPS printer in NWAdmin.
  2. Click Control, then Set Defaults.
  3. Select the banner page
  4. Select OK.
Banner pages on HP LaserJet 4, 4M, 4V, 4MV, or 4Si series printers
In order for the older HP LaserJet printers to display the PCL banner as an available choice within NWAdmin, it is necessary to associate a printer definition file to the printer when creating the NDPS printer.
Below are steps to associate a printer definition file when creating a new NDPS Printer.
  1. In NW Admin, begin to create a new NDPS Printer within the appropriate context.
  2. After assigning the NDPS Printer Name and NDPS Manager Name, select the Hewlett-Packard IP/IPX Printer Gateway and click OK in the Create Printer Agent window.
  3. In the Configure HP Printer Gateway for ... window, select HP LaserJet 4Si MC (PCL) within the Printer Type: list. This associates the printer definition file to the printer.
  4. Continue with the creation of the printer through NW Admin.
