HP Internet Printer Connection - HP Internet Printer Connection, Troubleshooting

If you cannot print to the printer after installing the HP Internet Printer Connection software, check the following:
The firmware revision of the Jetdirect is G.07.15, H.07.15, or later. If it is not, download the latest firmware upgrade (the Jetdirect print servers are IPP version 1.1 compliant).

  • Ensure the IP address on the HP Jetdirect print server is configured properly and accessible through the Internet.
  • If the printer is outside of a firewall or proxy, ensure the proxy name and port number are set up correctly in the Internet Printer Connection port monitor. Also, make sure the proxy supports HTTP v1.1 or later. The Jetdirect print server's UDP (user datagram protocol) port number for IPP printing is 631.
     note:
    Unless a firewall is specifically configured, IPP print jobs will not be allowed to print in through the firewall.
  • Ensure the IP address, URL, or host name is specified correctly on the computer.
  • If the HP Jetdirect external print server supports multiple ports, ensure the port is specified as part of the IP address, URL, or host name. If you have an HP Jetdirect External Multi-port print server, you can also specify a URL for a printer on the second port (ipp/port2) or the third port (ipp/port3). The HP Internet Printer Connection wizard takes care of this, but if you type the URL manually, ensure it is formatted correctly
  • If you use a host name instead of an IP address when configuring a printer in the IPC software, ensure the network's Domain Name Service (DNS) is set up correctly and that there is a name specified for that host name on the DNS. Try using an IP address instead of the host name. One way to test this is to ping the hostname. If there is no reply, but there is a reply when pinging the IP address, the network's DNS is not working correctly. Ensure that DNS lookup is enabled on the network.
  • Ensure that the TCP/IP stack is installed and enabled.
  • If you are having problems creating a printer using the Embedded Web Server on the HP Jetdirect print server, ensure the browser version you are using is supported.
