HP 49g, 48gII, 49g+ Calculator - Drawing Statistical and Non-Statistical Graphs

Description
The calculator's plotting application is used to graph functions. Functions can be created before or after the plotting application is opened. Any number of functions can be plotted at one time; however, only one statistical plot can be drawn at a time. Sixteen types of graphs can be plotted. This document addresses two: statistical and non-statistical.

Drawing a non-statistical plot
To draw a non-statistical plot, do the following:
  1. Access the PLOT SETUP menu by pressing LS, then 2D/ 3D.
  2. Select a new plot type by pressing CHOOS, then selecting the desired plot type, or press ALPHA, then the first letter of the name of the plot type.
  3. In the PLOT SETUP menu, change any of the parameters that need changing.
  4. Access the plot function by pressing LS, then Y=.
  5. Delete all of the functions listed by pressing NXT, then CLEAR or delete a particular function while keeping the others by using the directional arrow keys to highlight the function; then press LS, then DEL.
  6. To change a function, do the following:
    1. Use the directional arrow keys to highlight the function.
    2. Press EDIT (the function will then be displayed in the EQUATION WRITER).
    3. Edit the function.
    4. Press ENTER (the EQUATION WRITER will close and the edited function will overwrite the modified function). To cancel the edited function, press CANCEL, LS, then Y=.
  7. To choose a user defined function, do the following:
    1. Highlight the function below where the new function is going to be placed.
    2. Press CHOOS.
    3. Highlight the desired function.
    4. Press OK.
  8. To create a new function to be plotted, do the following:
    1. Press ADD to open the EQUATION WRITER.
    2. Create the function.
    3. Press ENTER (the new function will be added to the list of functions to be plotted).
  9. Press LS, then WIN to display the PLOT WINDOW.
  10. If necessary, change the plot window parameters.
  11. To plot the function(s), press DRAW.
     note:
The calculator records the last plot that was plotted. This allows the calculator to write over the top of an earlier function. To erase an earlier plot, press ERASE
Drawing statistical plots
To draw a statistical plot, do the following:
  1. Press LS, then 2D/ 3D to display the PLOT SETUP menu.
  2. Press CHOOS, and select the statistical plot that is to be drawn: bar, histogram, or scatter.
  3. Press the down directional arrow to move to the SUM DAT field.
  4. Open the MATRIX WRITER by pressing LS, then MTRW.
  5. Create a matrix to represent the statistical data that is to be plotted.
  6. Press ENTER.
  7. The matrix that was entered will appear on the screen in square brackets. Press OK to continue, or modify the matrix, then press OK.
  8. Press DRAW to plot the matrix.
     note:
Equations listed on the PLOT FUNCTION screen can be plotted or saved in the SUM DAT variable without first displaying any of the three plotting parameter screens. To do this, press LS, then GRAPH to select the graph command. The equation(s) or data matrix are then plotted. The parameters currently set on the PLOT WINDOW and PLOT SETUP input forms are used to determine the appearance of the plot.
