HP Jornada 560 Series PDA - Setting Up and Using the Jornada PC Card Adapter

Introduction
This document describes setting up and using the accessory HP Jornada PC Card Adapter on your HP Jornada 560 series PDA.
Set up
Complete the following steps to set up the PC card adapter:
  1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive on your desktop PC. The installation wizard should automatically begin. If not, click Start, select Run, and then type in d:\setup where d: is your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers on your HP Jornada.
     note:
    Reinstall this driver if the PDA is restored to factory default settings.
  3. Soft reset the HP Jornada.
  4. Ensure you have sufficient power in the backup battery. To check the backup battery:
    1. Tap Start then Settings.
    2. Tap the System tab.
    3. Tap the Power icon.
    4. Verify that the backup battery shows as Good.
  5. Replace the backup battery if it shows as Low or Very Low.
  6. Remove the HP Jornada main battery by unlocking the main battery lock (see A in Figure 1) and sliding the battery out of the main battery slot (see B in Figure 1).
  7. Remove the CompactFlash blank and CompactFlash slot cover (see C in Figure 1).

  8. Insert the Extended PC card battery by sliding it into the main battery slot (see Figure 2).

  9. Insert the PC card adapter (see Figure 3).

Using a PC card
Before inserting your PCMCIA Type II card, complete the following steps:
  1. Check the manufacturer’s documentation and follow the instructions. Some cards, such as wireless PC cards, require additional drivers that must be installed before the PC card will work.
  2. Insert the PC card by sliding it into the PC card slot (see Figure 4).
  3. Remove the card, by pressing the release latch (see D on Figure 3) once to release the eject mechanism and then pressing the release latch again to eject the card.
  4. Contact the PC card manufacturer with any questions about the PC card.
Using an MMC card
A Multimedia Memory card can also be used with the PC card adapter to provide alternative storage. Insert the card as by sliding it into the MMC slot (see Figure 4). Please contact the MMC card manufacturer with any questions about the MMC card.

Charging the Extended battery
The Extended battery for the PC card adapter can be charged in the cradle or while connected directly to AC power.
Charging with the cradle
To charge the Extended battery in the cradle that came with the HP Jornada, remove the PC card adapter from the Jornada and the drawer from the cradle (see Figure 5). Once the PC adapter and the drawer are removed, put the Jornada in the cradle.

Charging with the AC connector
To charge the Extended battery with the AC adapter, insert the connector directly to the power slot on the bottom of the HP Jornada.
Checking the battery power
You can check the Extended battery status by completing the following steps:
  1. Tap Start then Settings.
  2. Tap the System tab.
  3. Tap the Power icon.
Understanding the LED indicator
The LED functions as a status indicator.
LED lit
The LED lights up when:
  • The card is recognized by the HP Jornada and power is supplied to the card
  • The card is actively transmitting information between the card and the HP Jornada
LED dark
The LED stays dark if:
  • The PC card is not recognized by the HP Jornada
  • The PC card is not active
  • The HP Jornada power is turned off
  • The PC-card is removed from the adapter
