HP Jornada 560 Series PDA and 928 Wireless Digital Assistant - USB Cradle Connection Tips

Introduction
This document offers tips and suggestions for successfully connecting a HP Jornada 560 Series PDA or 928 Wireless Digital Assistant to a desktop PC via USB cradle.
Cradle connection tips
Try the following tips if ActiveSync and the desktop PC are not synchronizing:
 note:
Was the PDA connected to the desktop computer via USB before ActiveSync was installed? If so, visit the USB Connection Troubleshooting document.
  • Install Microsoft(R) ActiveSync 3.5 from the CD that came with the PDA or download and install the most current version of ActiveSync BEFORE connecting to the PC via USB.
  • Ensure that the HP Jornada is on.
  • Ensure that the PDA does not have any other active connections.
    1. Tap Start and then Today.
    2. Tap any connections showing in the bottom right corner of the screen.
    3. Tap Disconnect.
  • Ensure the cable is securely plugged into the USB port on the back of the desktop PC. Connect the USB cable directly to the desktop PC. Do not run the cable through a USB hub.
  • Enable the USB connection on the HP Jornada by completing the following steps.
    1. Tap Start and then ActiveSync.
    2. Tap Tools.
    3. Tap Options.
    4. Select Enable synchronization when cradled using: and then select USB Connection from the drop down list.
  • Ensure the USB connection is enabled in ActiveSync on the desktop PC. If the USB connection is already enabled, disable the USB connection, close the Connection Settings window, and then reopen and re-enable the USB connection. Refer to ActiveSync Help on the desktop computer for details about enabling ActiveSync.
  • Reset the HP Jornada before putting it in the cradle to connect.
  • Always disconnect the HP Jornada before restarting the desktop PC.
  • Connect only one Pocket PC or personal digital assistant to the desktop PC at a time.
