HP Jornada 720 and 820 - E-mail Works, but Cannot Browse the Web

Issue:
The HP Jornada is able to receive e-mail messages but cannot browse the Web. This issue only pertains to HP Dialup 2.0, which comes on the Jornada 720 and 728 or can be downloaded for the Jornada 820. During the setup of HP dialup, a screen appears for the Web Services settings with a default of Use proxy server. If this setting is not changed, then it will automatically put the default proxy in place.
 note:
HP Jornada 720 and 728: Online use requires either a connection to a landline or a third-party wireless accessory that must be purchased separately. Check with a service provider for availability and coverage in your area. Some Web content may not be available.
WORKAROUND 1: To resolve your issue using HP Dialup 2.0, follow the steps listed below:
  1. Open HP Dialup 2.0.
  2. Tap the Web Service tab.
  3. Remove the check from Use proxy server.
  4. Tap Edit More.
  5. Tap Next on the following two screens until the Save button appears.
  6. Tap Save.
     note:
The above steps must be followed in order. Going into HP dialup 2.0 and the Web Service tab, deselecting Use proxy server, and closing the window, will not save the setting.
WORKAROUND 2: If Workaround 1 did not resolve your connection issues, the connection may need to be configured manually by performing the following steps.
  1. Visit one of the following Web sites to see a list of Internet Service Providers (ISP) that are compatible with Windows CE.
    • http://www.cewindows.net/wce/isp.htm (US)
    • http://www.cewindows.net/wce/isp-intl.htm (International)
  2. Locate your ISP and write down the following information
    • Local Access Phone Number
    • Primary DNS Number
    • Secondary DNS Number
  3. On the Jornada, tap Start, Programs, Communications, then Remote Networking.
  4. Enter the name of the Provider.
  5. Select Dialup Service.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select the appropriate modem (Hayes Compatible on Com1 is a 'dummy' selection and will not work).
  8. Click Configure and make sure the Baud Rate is set to 57600.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click TCP/IP settings.
  11. Select Use Server Assigned IP address.
  12. Select the Name Servers tab.
  13. Uncheck Use Server Assigned address.
  14. Enter the Primary and Secondary DNS numbers that were written down in step 2. Click OK and Next.
  15. Enter the entire Local Access Phone number (from step 2). The Country Code, Area Code and Phone Number must all be entered. Click Finish.
  16. Double-click the new icon.
  17. Enter the User name and Password for the ISP. Domain should be left blank.
  18. Select Dial Properties and make sure your dialing location has the proper area code and country code listed and click OK.
  19. Click Connect.
