Occasionally, a HP Jornada 520 or 540 series Pocket PC will need to be reset. For example, it may need to be reset after restoring data from the desktop PC or when the operating system stops responding. There are two methods of resetting:
Soft reset - A soft reset (also called “warm boot”) is similar to restarting the desktop PC. It restarts the operating system and preserves any saved data.
Hard reset - A hard reset (also called “factory default reset”) restores the HP Jornada to its original state, erasing everything added after it came out of the box. To ensure the safety of the information in case a factory default reset is necessary, regularly back-up data to the desktop PC (using Microsoft (R) ActiveSync) or to a CompactFlash or PC Card (using the HP Jornada backup application). For more information on backing up data, see the Backing up and restoring data section in the User's Guide.
note:When resetting, unsaved data in all open documents or programs is lost. Use HP task switcher to close all open documents and programs. (In the Today screen, tap the HP task switcher icon, then tap Close Window and Close All on the pop-up menu.)
