Migrating Data from Other Products
This document contains information about migrating information from Palm III and newer products, older Palm organizers, and other non-HP Windows CE devices to your new HP Jornada 430/430se Palm-size computer.
Migrating from Palm III and newer products
Palm V and Palm III series connected organizers can synchronize data with Microsoft (R) Outlook 97/98. Chapura PocketMirror is included with the Palm Desktop organizer software so that your HotSync operations can synchronize data between your Palm Computing handheld and Microsoft Outlook. To use Chapura’s PocketMirror conduit, first install the Palm desktop software that is included with your Palm IIIx or Palm V organizer. If you choose to synchronize with Microsoft Outlook, the PocketMirror conduit will be installed with the Palm desktop software. For more information, go to the Palm Web site at http://www.palm.com.
Migrating from older Palm organizers
If you would like to use PocketMirror to synchronize your PalmPilot or Pilot organizer with Microsoft Outlook, you will need to purchase the commercial version of the software from Chapura, the maker of PocketMirror. Check with Chapura directly.
Migrating from non-Windows CE HP handheld PC devices
This section explains how to migrate from non-Windows CE HP handheld computer devices for use with palm-sized computers. If your data is stored on an HP 100/200LX Palmtop computer or an HP OmniGo Organizer, you must first transfer the data to your desktop computer.
To transfer data to the desktop computer, perform the following:
Use the HP PIM Translation Utility (for HP devices only) to import the data into Microsoft Outlook or Schedule+ 7.0a on your desktop computer.
After you have imported the data into Outlook or Schedule+, you can update the information on your palm-size computer by synchronizing with Outlook or Schedule+ using ActiveSync.
The HP PIM Translation Utility is available from the palm-size computer compact disc and on the Web.
note:Three sources of information are readily available to help you find an HP Support Services phone number:
- The Web at URL http://www.hp.com/cposupport/mail_support.html.
- The User's Guide that came with your HP product.
- An authorized HP Dealer or Retailer.
This procedure migrates only Appointment Book and Phone Book data. Before translating PIM data files, you must install the version of Schedule+ 7.0a found on the Desktop Software for Microsoft Windows CE compact disc on your desktop computer.
You can translate only one file at a time. To translate multiple PIM data files, you need to repeat the Translation operation for each file separately.
Migrating from other non-HP Windows CE devices
If you already synchronized your data with Microsoft Outlook, you do not need to do anything. If you want to transfer your data from your existing CE device to the palm-sized computer, you need to synchronize your current CE device with either Schedule+ or Microsoft Outlook. For more information on how to do this, consult your current CE device User's Guide or contact technical support for your current CE device manufacturer.
