HP 300LX Series Palmtop PC - MSVCRT.DLL Error During H/PC Explorer Installation
After upgrading a desktop PC running Windows 3.11 to Windows 95, and then while trying to install H/PC Explorer, the following error is observed:
"MSVCRT.DLL for Win32S
Error: This version of MSVCRT is only intended for Visual C++ run time library Win32S."
In past cases, this has not been a Windows CE or H/PC Explorer issue. The version of "MSVCRT.DLL" on the desktop PC was an older version that is incompatible with a number of applications. Microsoft (R) support suggests to do the following on the desktop PC:
Choose "Start," and then point to "Find."
Choose "Files Or Folders."
In the "Named" box, type the name of the file (MSVCRT.DLL).
Select the hard drive where the Windows 95 system files are located.
Choose "Find Now." This will provide a listing of all occurrences of this driver. Record the "Modified" date information for future reference.
Rename the drivers found to "MSCVRT.BAK" (to allow reversal of this process).
Copy newer versions of "MSVCRT.DLL" to the same directories that contain the original drivers. Newer copies of the driver can be found on Windows 95 Upgrade CDs, as well as the Microsoft Windows CE CD that is shipped with the HP 300LX Series Palmtop PC. Although a specific acceptable version number was not provided, modified dates of 7/11/96 or later have been successful.
Reboot the desktop and install H/PC Explorer.
