HP 300LX Series Palmtop PCS - Battery-Powered Modems Have a Very Short Life
A modem that is on the supported peripherals list cannot be used for more than a few minutes on battery power.
PC Card modems that draw more than 150mA are not supported on battery power. Although most, if not all, of the modems on the current recommended list exceed 150mA @ 5V (275mA @ 5V for Megahertz XJA2288), they do not require more than the 300mA @ 5V recommended maximum for PC Cards when used with an AC adapter.
Depending on the type and condition of the batteries, modems that require more than 150mA @ 5V may work for a limited time on battery power alone. However, it is strongly recommended that an AC adapter be used with PC Card modems.
