HP Digital Home Networking - Resolving Unexpected Behavior with Gateway (hn200x)

Introduction
If your Gateway is acting in an unexpected manner and is not functioning the way it should, follow the instructions in this document to attempt to remedy the situation. The unexpected behavior may be exhibited with any number of strange results, including the following:
  • The house icon cycles randomly through green, yellow, red, and back again.
  • The internet connection sometimes functions, sometimes does not.
  • The internet connection suddenly drops off for no apparent reason.
Instructions
  1. Make sure you have the most recent version of firmware and software for the gateway.
    1. Right-click the green, red, or yellow house icon in the Windows System Tray. (See Figure 1.) In the menu that pops up, click Check for upgrade.

    2. The application will check the HP Web site, determine which upgrade (if any) is available for your configuration, give you the opportunity to confirm that you wish to download and install the upgrade, and performs the download and installation of your new software or firmware upgrade.
    3. If an upgrade was found and installed, try using the Gateway again. If the issue with unexpected behavior has been resolved, you do not need to do anything further. If the issue still exists, continue on to step 2.
  2. Make sure you have the most recent version of firmware and software for the router or DSL modem.
    1. Consult your router, modem, and ISP company to verify if you have the most current firmware and software for each.
    2. If any updates are available, obtain them and install them on your system. The router, modem, and ISP companies can help you with that process.
    3. If any upgrades were found and installed, try using the Gateway again. If the issue with unexpected behavior has been resolved, you do not need to do anything further.
    4. If the Gateway is still behaving unexpectedly, contact the HP Customer Care Center for assistance.
