HP Digital Home Networking - How to Upgrade Firmware or Software for the Gateway (hn200x)

Introduction
Follow the instructions in this document to ensure that you have the latest firmware or software for the Gateway.
 note:
If your Gateway’s Internet connection is working well, there is no need to download a newer firmware version unless that version contains new features that you would like to use. Downloading a more current version of Gateway firmware will not enhance the quality or speed of your Internet connection, and may disrupt your current connection stability.
Gateway system tray application
  1. Locate the green, red, or yellow house icon in the Windows System Tray. The Window System Tray is in the recessed area of the Windows taskbar in the lower right of the screen. Access the System Tray application from any computer on the network. (See Figure 1.)

     note:
If you do not have an icon in the Systray, it can be reinstalled from the Windows Start menu. Click Start, Programs, HP Digital Home Networking, then Gateway System Tray Application.
  2. Right-click the Gateway System Tray icon. It will display a pop-up menu that provides convenient access to Gateway tools. (See Figure 2.) Once displayed, highlight the desired option and left- click the option to launch it.

  3. Follow the steps below to configure your system to automatically check for upgrades, or to do it manually.
Checking for upgrades automatically
When a software or firmware upgrade becomes available on the HP Web site, you will be notified automatically by a notification window (assuming you have enabled this option - see below) and prompted to download and install the upgrade.
Turning on automatic notification
In the pop-up menu (See Figure 2) select the Notify me when network events occur option. It will display status notification windows, including a notification about software or firmware upgrade availability. If there is no checkmark next to it, click on it so that a checkmark appears.
Turning off automatic notification
In the pop-up menu (See Figure 2) select the Notify me when network events occur option. It will display status notification windows, including a notification about software or firmware upgrade availability. If you do not wish to receive notifications, select it and verify that the checkmark no longer appears next to this option.
Checking for upgrades manually
Since the automatic notification may not be as frequent as you would like, you can also manually check for the availability of upgrades by selecting Check for upgrade... from the System Tray application pop-up menu. (See Figure 2.) The application checks the HP Web site, determines which upgrade (if any) is available for your configuration, gives you an opportunity to confirm that you wish to download and install the upgrade, and performs the download and installation of your new software or firmware upgrade.
