HP Deskjet 350 Series Printer - How to Download and Install the Printer Driver

Introduction
This document provides instructions to download and install the printer driver for the HP Deskjet 350 series printer. The HP Deskjet 350 series Downloads & Drivers page provides several drivers that may be downloaded, depending upon the driver features desired.
The full version of the driver is, for the most part, the same driver included on the Starter CD. It includes options to create a program group, create an uninstaller link, and install the HP Toolbox. The driver may be installed using either Add Printer or SETUP.EXE. To create the program group, uninstaller link, and install the HP Toolbox, SETUP.EXE must be run. Using the Add Printer Wizard to install the driver will not create the program group, uninstaller link, or install the HP Toolbox; however, all the driver files are still copied to the hard drive. The program group and HP Toolbox links may be created manually.
A "lite" version of the driver is also provided. The "lite" driver does not include the HP Toolbox or options for creating the program group or uninstaller link. This allows the driver to be smaller and take up fewer system and network resources (memory, disk space, processor time, and reduced network traffic). The "lite" driver may only be installed through the Add Printer Wizard. There is no difference in print quality between the two drivers.
Download the printer driver
Instructions are provided below for downloading the printer driver.
  1. Click here to go to the Downloads & Drivers Web page for the HP Deskjet 350 series printer or go to http://www.hp.com/go/dj350 and choose the Drivers option.
  2. Select your operating system from the links at the top of the page or scroll to the driver listing for your operating system.
  3. Click a link to download either the full or lite version of the driver.
     note:
The full driver may also be downloaded as multiple files. All the parts must be downloaded before the driver can be installed. The file should be downloaded in multiple parts if you have a slow Internet connection, your connection tends to disconnect or error during long downloads, or you wish to copy the downloaded files to floppy diskettes.
  4. If prompted, select the option to save the file to disk and choose OK.
  5. If needed, write down the filename and the name of the folder where the file will be saved. Choose OK to begin downloading the driver file.
  6. After the driver finishes downloading, go to the "Install the printer driver" section for your operating system.
Install the printer driver (Windows NT 4.0 and 2000)
After downloading the driver from the HP Web site, run the downloaded file to extract the driver files. The full version of the driver (both single file and multi-part downloads) is "self-executable," which means the SETUP.EXE program for the driver will automatically run after the file's contents have been extracted. The lite version of the driver is not "self-executable." After extracting the files for the lite driver, the Add Printer Wizard must be used to install the driver. The following instructions may be used to install the HP Deskjet 350 series printer driver for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000.
 note:
Administrator privileges are required to install the printer driver in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000.
  1. Close any unnecessary programs that are running on the computer using the steps below.
    1. Right-click any program appearing on the Taskbar next to the Start button and choose Close.
    2. Repeat the previous step until all the programs appearing on the Taskbar are closed.

  3. Locate the folder containing the downloaded driver and double-click the file.
  4. A prompt will appear showing the default path where the files will be extracted. To use a path other than the default, type the path here. Choose OK to continue the installation.
If the single file version of the full driver was downloaded, the SETUP.EXE program will automatically run after the files have finished extracting. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the installation.
If the lite version of the driver was downloaded, continue to the next step after the files have been extracted.
  5. Select Start, Settings, Printers, and then double-click Add Printer. This will start the Add Printer Wizard.
