HP2500C Professional Series Color Printer - Features of the User Interface/v 1.0 Driver Utilities

Features of the User Interface (ui)
Driver feature
Feature value
ZoomSmart
Some applications do not support printing on A3 size media. The ZoomSmart feature scales images up or down. It does not allow scaling by a user-defined factor.
Handout
Some presentation graphics programs do not support the printing of Handouts. The Handout feature shrinks output to fit two, four, or eight pages onto a single page. Handout pages may be different in size from the original.
Handouts have the option of adding page borders for clarity or watermarks to overlay pages.
The Handout feature does not allow definition of print orientation; rather, it depends on page orientation set in the application and the number of pages per sheet.
Billboard
The Billboard feature allows printing of large posters by expanding a document and printing portions of the enlarged image on separate sheets. Only one page at a time can be printed as a billboard. The feature may be used in conjunction with a page border to provide a cutting reference.
The Billboard feature will not allow the user to print a watermark over the billboard image.
Mirror Image
The Mirror Image feature is useful for printing on backlit or iron-on transfer media. It flips the print image horizontally, and can be used with the Page Border, Watermark, Billboard and features.
The Mirror Image cannot flip a print image vertically.
Watermark
The Watermark feature allows the document to be overlayed with a string of text from any application. This feature supports both pre-defined standard text and user-defined text between three and 20 characters in length, with choice of point size, font, color or style. The watermark may be on the first page only or on all pages in the document.
Quick Sets
The Quick Sets feature allows printer driver settings to be stored for future use. Settings can be saved using a set of pre-defined names or created with original names.
Enhanced Print Preview
With the HP 2500C series printer, Print Preview is updated after rendering each band rather than waiting until the entire page is rendered before displaying. This allows the preview to be seen earlier, providing a faster preview when previewing part of the document is sufficient.
New UI look and feel
The new UI look and feel has Paper and Quality tabs in place of Setup and Color tabs, and the Hint section has been removed. New icons and bitmaps have been used, making the User Interface more like the familiar User Interface for HP LaserJet printers.
Emulate LaserJet Margin
This allows documents created and printed previously on an HP LaserJet printer to be printed without having the information shift from one page to another.
Balloon Help in UI
Balloon Help offers context-sensitive help. An animated balloon opens approximately one second after the cursor has stopped moving and stays on the screen for approximately five seconds before closing. When the User Interface dialog box is close to the screen edge, the balloon is repositioned to avoid displaying off the screen.
This feature can be disabled in the Preference tab.
Integrated Toolbox & Status Monitor
The integrated Toolbox and Status Monitor offer one-stop shopping for printer information, including:
status of the printer - ink level, available paper sizes in trays (requires bidrectional communication)
status of print job (PCL and Novell jobs)
display of warning message
troubleshooting tools such as Align Pen and Diagnostic test
how-to info on special features, ink, media, and more.
Queue Info
This feature is available only when Novell client is installed. The Queue Info shows all jobs in all print queues associated with the HP 2500C series printer in Novell, including print job size, description, etc. Print jobs can be deleted from the print queue by the originator using this utility.
Queue operators, or others with administrative rights, can delete any print job, swap the position of two print jobs in the print queue, or can switch a print job from one print queue to another.
Smart Spooling
Previously, the temporary files created by the driver were written into some pre-defined directory, which was usually on the same hard drive as the operating system. If these directories ran out of space, driver processing would terminate with an error, even if there were other hard drives with sufficient disk space. Smart Spooling will enumerate all local hard drives available and ask which drive to use if the default directories run out of disk space.
